Man on turret truck dies in elevator accident at Tokyo fish market

Had to read the title 3 time,

They rushed the market, and as we all know, Japanese love to cut corners. Safety is a strange thing here. How often I see workers cutting concrete wearing a hard hat. No ear muffs or safety glasses. Steel capped boots?

I totally agree Tokyo- engr.

Facts after facts repeatedly show that health and safety body organizations in Japan failed to address properly the numerous issues and kept hiding the true!

The managers, CEOs, politicians, etc can't produce a true transparent communication with the public and the workers has no voice so perfect formula for more incidents like this one!!

There are different types of sensors available by some elevator companies, pressure or touch bar, optical strip sensors which open the door when a beam of light is broken by an incoming passenger . . . these options should be made mandatory by law . . . some elevators have both a pressure sensor and an optical sensor. . . this should be brought to the attention of Japan's elevator companies as well as government.

What a horrific and terrible way to die.....RIP.

I never understand people rushing in to closing doors in elevators or trains ... one or even 10 min wont make a difference, why not just wait ?

Everyone in Japan has seen those ubiquitous “飛び込み禁止” signs in the train stations at least once in their life, one would imagine. I guess it doesn’t sink in...

What the heck? There is supposed to be a sensor on the bottom of the door (safety interlock) which will detect if the elevator strikes an object and reverses the door causing it to retract to the full open position. This is a very basic safety feature. There must be more to this story. If the door did not have this interlock this is negligent.
