Man questioned over mysterious deaths of mother, sister

Police said Monday they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two women whose bodies were discovered in their Tokyo residence on Sunday.

Officers entered the Kodaira property after a 49-year-old man reported that he had been unable to contact his mother for over a month, TV Asahi reported. Upon visiting the house, officers discovered the decomposing bodies of two women believed to be the man's mother and sister. Police say that parts of the bodies had decomposed to a skeletal state.

According to police, the man, who was believed to have been living in the house with his mother and sister, is currently being questioned over the reason for the discrepancy in the timeline he described. However, investigators say the man's responses have been "incomprehensible."
