I really struggle to follow the complainants logic.

While I don't agree with despicable hate speech, I also don't agree with criminalizing it (unless it is used in conjunction with violence or threats of violence).

Freedom of speech does not and SHOULD NOT include hate speech.

If this fascist wants the right to parade around the streets shouting racist nonsense then the Osaka government, or anyone else, should have the right to publicise his name and workplace. Free speech works both ways. If I knew where these fools worked I would be able to boycott their businesses.

I have to agree with this. Speech is different from actions, and as long as people don't act on their hate, they should be free to express their ignorance. In turn, we're free to ignore them or call them out on their ignorance.

I don't think the government had to get involved, but video hosting sites have every right to decide what kind of content they want on their sites.

It's also very often the seat next to me is the only vacant seat on a crowded train. I used to think it was just xenophobia, but I now realise is actually a deep seated cultural hate of all foreigners. I'm not saying all Japanese share this view, but there are many who do.

I believe in free speech. I don’t believe in racism. The person has a right. He can win ¥1 and pay ¥150000 in court costs. It’s a win/win solution.

I have never, not once, experienced that or anything similar. And I've been here a long time.

I wonder if he'd be so keen on free speech if I posted a lot of vitriol against the imperial family. I suspect he's be outraged and demand that I be silenced.
