A man tried to kill himself in the kitchen of a restaurant in the JR Takasaki Station building in Gunma Prefecture on Monday.
According to police, the man came into the restaurant at 11:45 a.m. NTV reported that he walked into the kitchen without saying a word, grabbed a knife and then stabbed himself in the neck.
The man, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he is in a stable condition, police said.

Weird guy but at least he didn't stab anybody else, and he is not dying either.

More like a suicidal "gesture" (cry for help) than a real attempt. Why go into a busy location and do it in front of witnesses? Because there's a very good chance that you'll be saved.

The act may be self-infliction without lethal intent. The important thing to realize is that a potential suicide victim sees very little hope of resolving his problems while a friend may be able to point out an obvious solution.
