“How unfortunate”
Sanjinosebleed
Learnt behaviour! Once once starts the others will follow...They will need to do some serious scaring to get the monkeys back to their normal range.
I suggest all Yamaguchi residents be issued with safety glasses and a M4 BB pellet gun and give those cheeky monkeys hell!...:)

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
Japan, you've got a long way to go.

There’s obviously a problem with their food source or their territory has been encroached on by construction perhaps?
Theres a reason for the attacks - what is it?
Mark
Any experts opinion as why this is happening, JT?
cleo
mostly mild scratches and bites warrants a death sentence?
Assuming realise into the wild is not on the cards, was there no possibility of lifetime incarceration in a zoo?
Jay is right. A long, long way.
cleo
realise = release
When do we get an edit feature, JT?

I love animals and nature, for the same reason I love children; innocence and the absence of evil. No matter what you say, this is sad news. Some people are becoming anti-monkeys now for no reason. smh

Lol. Planet of the Apes came to mind. But not funny. Saw the pic of what the monkey, who entered through a balcony, did to a one year old girl’s leg. What, humans encroaching on their natural habitat and they roam down from the mountains searching for food?
OssanAmerica
In most of the U.S. wild animals that enter human habitat are tranquilized and transported away. However animals which have caused injury or death to humans are simply put down. While I have strong objections to the way some wild animals are dealt with in Japan, this case is not one of them.

About time!

Let's not monkey around with this problem. Gangs of marauding monkeys have been known to attack pets, small children and adults in various parts of the world. I hate killing animals but humans and their safety come first so total elimination is the only way forward.

No natural predator. That's the problem. Nothing to keep the macaque population in check.

Monkey business as usual get rid of the pets! If not they will go rogue!!

Forget rabbit season or duck season, it’s monkey season.
NCIS Reruns
Marauding macaque manacled, murdered after masticating many home sapiens Nipponicus.

I'm not anti-monkey. Something is making the monkeys leave their normal habitat. Something changed. They aren't doing it for fun. There must be less food where they'd normally find it so they are adapting.
This sort of behavior happens for all animal and insect life on earth. When conditions change, they have to adapt. It is up to us, the likely cause of any change, to figure it out and either take corrective actions so they can return to normal behavior or, if necessary, cull the population in a humane manner.
There are lots of natural predators for monkeys, but Japan has killed the ones in nature and doesn't allow humans to harvest the animals for meat. In parts of Africa, "bush meat" is highly desired. As long it it isn't endangering the species, a culling is a good idea. Japanese seem to have lost that idea.

What a cheeky monkey.

Ok Mods can you please explain????
Seriously if you do not understand something then ask someone don't just assume?
There was nothing vulgar or offensive unless somehow those 2 words have a different meaning in Japan or the country you are from.
A rock salt shotgun in a non lethal method of warning off unwanted pests including humans, a reduced powered charge and salt is fire from a shotgun.
The result a lot of noise and a painful peppering of salt the wound is rarely deap and will burn for hours just cause no danger because the salt will not cause infection..
Again if you need to be explained and do not understand a cultural or a FACTUAL post ask.
Reason of removal: Offensive / Vulgar
I say a few double barrel shotguns with rock salt instead of lead or steel shot.
This works on Raccoons, Fox, coyote, even kids.
When I was young the local farmers would pepper anything or anyone trying to mess around on their property, going after their chickens or Apples.
Whether an animal or human once you get a rear full of rock salt, you learn the lesson never ever go back to that place.
I've seen it work on Wild pigs and those buggers don't usually stop their destructive path

Put pepper sauce in a squirt gun or get pepper spray to defend against the monkey's.
Ideally a net launcher or fishing net to thow at them.
