Police in Shizuoka took on a rampaging monkey at the Shizuoka prefectural office on Wednesday and lost.
Police drew up a plan involving a large number of officers in an attempt to capture the marauding Japanese macaque. TBS reported that the monkey in question, around 50-60 cm in height, appeared at the 21-story prefectural office in downtown Shizuoka at noon. The slippery simian drew police up through the building and then down the fire escape, remaining just outside of their grasp as government employees watched on, bewildered.
Police followed their quarry down to street level via ladders and attempted to capture it in a pincer movement, at which point the monkey made a surprise counterattack, leading its would-be captors to recoil, TV media showed. The monkey then moved the chase over to another government office building complex, following which it made its escape.
Shizuoka police say the monkey is still at large, but that traps are being placed on the emergency stairs of the prefectural office in an attempt to capture the primate, should it return.

Um is there video of this? I know this is serious but I bet it reminds me of a classical Tom and Jerry cartoon over here in the US.

I wonder where the monkey came from? It is basically all city around there. There's a park, but not that I have ever seen or could imagine monkeys living.

... I suspect that the smokers in the building may be in for a bit of a surprise.
As for the monkey, just put up Oni masks with large teeth around the building. The monkey will take one look at the size of the teeth and leave (I'm not kidding, this really works).

It appears the monkey was neither marauding (roaming in search of things to steal or people to attack) nor rampaging (rushing around in a violent and uncontrollable manner). From all accounts it was doing its best to get away from the hordes of blue uniforms chasing it with nets and ladders. Poor thing is probably scared out of its tiny little wits.
If/when they catch it I hope they let it go in the mountains, and don't give it the death penalty for having the temerity to get lost in the city.

Maybe he hopped on a flying cloud and zoomed off somewhere. Best thing the police can do is look out for a pig, a kappa and a rather attractive young lady dressed as an ancient Chinese priest.
