Wow, the Japanese government is saying things that the WHO said back in 2020, neat!

Maybe next year they will finally say that plexiglass barriers not only do absolutely nothing, but because they cut the normal airflow in closed spaces, it is actually worse to have them in place if the point is to avoid infections, something that was also widely known back in 2020.

After so many incidents involving mask police (aka.: entitled old men verbally abusing other ppl in the streets and train stations) I wouldnt dare to get rid of them right now, unless the government launches a massive campaign encouraging this which is unlikely to happen.

I walk to the supermarket from my house on rural roads three or four times a week and don't wear a mask during my walk. But when someone walks past me, even if they're five to ten feet away, they look at me with suspicion and fear. There's no way in hell they'll catch anything from me even if I wanted them to.

People here really need to start using their common sense. Finally, now that the govt. is starting to tell them that they don't really need to wear masks outside, they'll probably sheeple up and ditch the masks outside.

There needs to be a separate research don't for the Japanese people by the Japanese people because and it needs to take 2 years because Japan is special, we have 4 seasons here ;)

I thought they already announced this last week. Or maybe that was the prerelease to say they were considering thinking about it.

Ahem…pssst J-gov the pandemic is no longer a pandemic. Nobody (well the sane at least) cares about covid anymore. Just let go and let life carry on. There is no need for anyone to be wearing a mask if they choose not to. If you still want to by all means carry on but allow the rest of us to get on with life. Thank you.

What gets me is when you see a single person in their car with the windows closed… wearing a mask.

A declaration such as this is required for a population that can't think for themselves for fear of non-conforming.

To be honest, wearing a mask is tremendously comfortable. We can cover up without makeup and shaving. It also hides the smell of our breaths.

There was never any science that proved mask were effective and it shows. We go to restaurants and see told to wear them inside , but then we remove them to eat.

It would be false to interpret this decision as an OK for no masks. This is to prevent heatstroke of children during summer physical education classes.

Last time I checked, the seats on the train were inside, not outside.

Its simply astonishing that with all of the real world evidence, the studies, and the admission by both the CDC and Denmark that masks are nothing more than a tool to keep the populace in a state of stress, that the myth of masks stopping the spread of a virus persists. Indoors or outdoors.

Completely useless.

Two and a half years into this farce, day is night and the sky is still green.

If masks were effective, the pandemic would have been stopped in its tracks.

Still it’s not a clear statement… they are using “ not always necessary “!

Almost all Japanese people won’t stop wearing masks and will frown on anyone ( especially a foreigner ) who isn’t wearing a mask around them!

I'm sure masks have some protective value, but not fool proof - especially the kind we wear in Japan, but wearing masks outside? That's just ridiculous. If others choose to do so, that's fine with me, but I never did that and always questioned why they didn't say this was not necessary. Anyway, finally they said it so that's good.

I never wear them outside, and less and less inside as well. I've never had covid as far as I can tell, and am unvaxxed and healthy.

US has 3031 Covid deaths per million people and Japan has 240. Everyone in Japan wears masks and America had a political meltdown to get people to wear masks and most people there just quit.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the mask. You are leaving out one very very impotent issue and a major one, peoples overall health. Over 75% of the supposed Covid deaths in the states are from people consider obese and most had diabetes.

I say supposed because we truly will never know the real number of actual deaths because so many people were marked as Covid deaths when in reality that was not why they died. Even Dr. Fauci had to admit that lie on national television because the CDC got caught lying about the number of children dying or infected.

Japan has one of the largest elderly populations in the world. I’ve worked at a care home here and they are by far healthier than their American counterparts.

Any source that can prove those deaths represent any significant number or the supposed lying?

One thing is to make compromises to deliver opportune information daily, another completely different is to correctly count the cases for the epidemiological analysis that come much later. It is understandable that some degree of overcounting (or not enough) happens for the quick releases, but that does not mean this is never corrected.

Well, everywhere where masks were used, because they have a scientifically demonstrated positive effect preventing infections when used correctly. Why do you think all institutions of science or medicine coincide in the recommendation for masks? are all the experts wrong?

No need for them at all, unless you're seriously ill already and have to protect yourself from all sorts of nasties. And even then they're of limited value.

The experts say they are very useful to avoid infections no matter who you are, and that applies also for the people you are in contact with, not only for yourself. Everything in medicine is of "limited value", that does not mean everything is useless.

Only place I wear a mask is at my job.

Unless someone's paying me to pretend to care about Covid, I'm not doing it.
