Thumbs-up to some out-of-the-box thinking by McDonalds. I'm not sure how well tofu nuggets will be received by the consumer, but for a brand that has not always struck me as innovative, this step was a surprise to me. Now let's fix the suppliers. If not, McD may have to start charging for those smiles that they list on their menu as free.

But, my question is, are they 100% tofu or another culinary Frankenstein like McNuggets? Do they contain TBHQ?

Tofu (bean curd) , Aburage (fried tofu), inarizushi (beancurd packed with sushi rice)

Tofu Shinjo ( nuggets modelled on a traditional side dish that meshes tofu, vegetables and fish).

Sound delicious. McDonald will succeed in Japan.

I intend to try this, for curiosity's sake.

Correction Inarizushi is aburage packed with sushi.

Tofu Shinjo in fast food. Children can enjoy, too. Can Mac use small shrimp (koebi) instead of fish?

All because of some expired meat?

Who got sick?

Not even condone selling expired meat, but I believe the expiration limits are pretty strict. Expired does not mean rotting or even necessarily dangerous. The companies involved should be punished severely, but, I am not afraid of McNuggets. Over-reactions can be as bad as under-reactions.

In fact, I am going to be wary of these suddenly introduced Tofu nuggets until they have passed the test of time.

About a decade ago, McDonald's japan had a Tofu Burger as a limited time special menu item. I was happy to see it, unhappy to taste it, and outraged to find out later that it contained chicken fat.

I hope they do better this time. (I now know to go the the website and check ingredients in advance.

I think I can say with some confidence no limited edition Mcd burger has ever lived up to expectations. And there have been many.

On another note, I guess I'm dim, but I had no idea Mcd sourced meat from China of all places. But what do I care, as of next month, I've been 14 months without Mcd. Yay me! :P Going to miss their Coke glasses though, especially since they are so rubbish quality my cat keeps busting them :(

On Tuesday, McDonald’s Japan President Sarah Casanova made a televised apology, as she warned the “appalling” incident—and subsequent switch to chicken suppliers in Thailand to plug the gap—would depress company profits.

I'd pay more (when I rarely visit) for meat sourced here.

Not sure I want to know what that is. I'll forget Google exists today.

I didn't think McD's meat was sourced from china either. I remember reading somewhere it was from Australia.

"McDonald's sucks"

That must be why they're still the number one hamburger restaurant chain in the world with over 33,000 restaurants and there was a long line at my local McD's at 5pm today.

It must be all (100 %) tofu as tofu is just bean curd. Fried tofu is called aburage and Mac is packing veg and fish inside I think cooked fish. Veg, maybe fresh? or cooked nappa, etc? mac is very creative and it changes ingredient of their burgers often,

You have to hand it to the people at Mc Donald's. They really know their marketing well.
