Wish I was rich enough to shop in Ginza.

Nah!

Me Auntie Julie and I prefers the rundown dirty look of London Underground's stations.

@Reckless I was commuting through Geienmae before until WFH from April and some ceilings there felt really low. Couldn't believe it's ok to have such low clearance.

All for the olympics to impress the foreigners once they arrive and see how lit up this city is with colors like Shinjuku is. That money could of been better spent on creating more hospitals as flu season is down the corner.

Nice if you walk around on your knees.

Put on the disco music and party..

Only one photo, but I like it.

Yeah, the low ceiling height is bothersome, but you have to keep in mind that it's a very old station, and there's stuff just above that ceiling (pipes, cables, the tracks when you cross under them, lots of other underground stuff). Raising the ceilings (and everything behind them) is an easy way to turn a $200 million project into a $400 million project.

The opposite of elegant. If they wanted to make the station look more elegant, they would have recast it as it's Taisho-jidai self - the Japanese take on Art Deco.

Folks Japanese people were MUCH shorter 90yrs ago than they are now that is partly why the Ginza line ceilings are LOW in a lot of places

Kind of looks like a casino

Very good point! Because, as we solve the Olympics especially, projects like these can be really expensive as it is. So why in the world would you want to make it even more expensive, considering the fact that it’s mostly for Japanese people anyway?

In terms of how it looks in the photo, is it just me, or does it look really futuristic/New Age?

That is the worst PR image I have EVER seen. Just look at the photographer STANDING in the middle of the image. He is wearing a white long sleeve shirt and is tilting his head to the side in what appears to be an attempt to avoid having his head touch the ceiling. JUST HOW DAMN LOW IS THAT CEILING?!?
