North Korea is highly unlikely to launch an attack which would be extremely destabilising-America on the other hand?

Dear media. Find another bogeyman, this one is boring.

I agree. The media should focus closer attention on the more likely risk to the world, i.e. the economic-military pairing of Putin and Trump backed by their respective oligarchs.

Fear-mongering serves no one but the militarists.

Another day, another bucket of prole-fear.

Fat boy and the Fart and their respective generals are playing chess with their military toys. The trouble is that one player is demonstrably unstable, politicly balanced on a teetering structure liable to collapse and dependant on lies and bluster to save his fat carcass from the Romanian option!

Chess pieces don't do much harm, even if you throw them. Thermonuclear warheads do. So defence in depth is the only rational response, the only alternative is MAD which as fat boy already is, probably won't work

People need to change how they think. "Missiles COULD hit with little warning?" No. I think it should be CAN. It is not a matter of fear, it is a matter of fact and people just need to get used to it. I know the water is cold, but just jump in. Get past the crazy and the unthinkable. Looking at it won't make it go away.

I grew up on a nuclear bullseye. It is not comforting to think that some war might happen and obliterate your existence, but that is the fact, so there is not much use worrying about it. It is very unlikely to happen, much like a 9.0 earthquake or a huge tsunami. You can prepare for it somewhat. If it happens, then you deal with it.

If it makes anyone feel any better, North Korea's bombs and warheads put together make up a fraction of 1% of the world's nuclear arsenals, so we have all been living under a sword of Damocles since we were born, and not much has changed at all.

Knowing that China is the only country able to influence NKorea, why are people not boycotting Chinese goods or taking such measures? I don't understand why people are content to be fearful, and yet do nothing about the problem. Oh. No. Wait. I DO understand why people are like that. It is easier to worry and be afraid than to do something. Right?

@5speed Boycotting chinese products? Sounds like you wanna spread this tension further.

What do you suggest should be done?

From 2015:

"Press reports indicate that the CIA assessed that Pyongyang received a nuclear package from Pakistan, including detailed, step-by-step instructions to produce a Chinese-designed nuclear warhead that could be delivered by North Korea’s No-dong missile.26 Pakistani nuclear scientist A. Q. Khan reportedly stated that North Korea’s nuclear weapons were “the perfect nuclear weapons, technologically more advanced than ours.”27 Khan described how, in return for Pakistani assistance to Pyongyang’s centrifuge program, “North Korea would help Pakistan in fitting the nuclear warhead into the Ghauri missile.”28"

If it is so worrisome, then perhaps it is time for a preemptive strategic strike from the ally forces. Make sure it will take out the leader along with all his relatives/friends to the 3rd degree. That's is a very basic rule of engagement - take out the leader(s).

A Japan coastal based NK Submarine launch of a Nuclear missile or even a Suicidal attack with atomic material would cause massive damage, and without warning.

I think, that would be their response, should any attack be launched against NK.... at least, were I in charge there, that's what I would do.

Now whether or not such attacks would actually be carried out, is another thing - would you trust the North Korean Military to question their Leaders instructions even knowing that he may already be dead ?

After NK, I suspect Pakistan is next.

...several weeks ago, I commented in an article talking about how quick these ballistic delivery systems travel yet some people didn't believe it. Well here you go. As for NK's missiles, yeah, they can do that, even more so in the future. So much for the THAAD. It's just something people need to live with. NK afterall isn't the first country to have these weapons, and they certainly aren't most likely going to instigate stuff. They're just using it as a defensive measure, or for retaliation. I read somewhere that the NK government don't want to end up like Libya, where Gaddafi gave up his nuclear ambitions in return for being left alone by the West..........well look what happened to him.

And try and avoid mass conflict with millions of lives at peril. That's probably more important than your Romanov style takedown, don't you think?

Sure, they could launch an attack with little warning. And they would be destroyed as a country shortly thereafter. It's not like they have defenses that could stand up to the Americans.

The Americans could also attack with little warning, and the North Koreans could launch their remaining missiles shortly thereafter.

It's mutually assured destruction.

You people make me laugh. Reporting on the threats this country faces to the public is not fear mongering when NK are getting more bold and still sending missiles in this direction. Yes yes I know they have been doing for a while - still a threat. If it was not reported you "experts" would saying oh boo hoo Abe is keeping secrets from us, its a conspiracy... Abe shot JFK....etc etc etc.
