Wow - that's a large painting to have gone missing.
Be interesting to view it now and after restoration.
And how can it "return home", when it was apparently painted in France, bought in France and stored in France?

Great painting.
“Enemy property” sounds like theft.

I may hope that it is a back support that is pinned to the wall , and if what I see is what is left of the painting it does not need to be restored but repainted, so the restorer will have to give his impression on a Monet
Well done from the French to " protect " the painting during world war II and return it in this state. They could have , at least, restored it, before returning it as they are responsible for the damage.

Don't see how we can be responsible for the damages during war time storage...Maybe they can ask the German ... Anyway, insurances in general don't cover the damages in case of war or natural disaster ...
Fair enough we gave it back...

http://en.rfi.fr/culture/20180227-missing-monet-returns-home-japan has a very different painting that actually corresponds to the title, so probably the image illustrating the article in Japan Today is wrong.
