If everything was settled, why is Beijing encouraging(read:pushing) those small groups to ask for more compensation? Aren't they victimizing again those victims?

How long is this "apologizing" going to continue? War is War!, no one should be required to apologize!

It might be better if the Japanese government would say, "In war, stuff [substitute another S word if you wish] happens. Get over it." Then people could only complain about the lack of contrition.

As soon as you actually do something, people start complaining. It was too little Abe had his fingers crossed when he apologized. Abe wore a blue suit when he should have worn black. They didn't consult with anyone. They consulted with the wrong people. On and on it goes.

Meanwhile, I don't see the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party making any moves to apologize for Mao or to pay any compensation to the survivors of the Great Cultural Revolution or the Great Leap Forward.

What has Mao got to do with what the Japanese did? That is another story. If a woman is molested by two different men on separate occasions and the police catch one of them, are you saying the police shouldn't jail him unless they catch the other?

Seems like a good thing by Mitsubishi, late for sure but better late than never they seem to be trying to do the right thing, something almost never seen from Japan, so I think it should do some good.

Now hopefully no one from Mitsubishi screws it up.

MacArthur abolished Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and the other zaibatsu companies after the surrender. Too bad he couldn't keep them abolished.

War is not about a private company bringing civilian as slave workers to death, read the Geneva convention again.

Japan has a lot to be sorry for and a lot of compensation to be responsible for. And, sadly, most of Asia has very good reasons to hate Japan and to seek such compensation.

As I lived as a non-Japanese expat in China for 10 years , both Japanese and Chinese enjoy enslaving others . Now , in Japan , the situation continues somehow , enslaving other nations is factories and labs in Japan . Japan apology should have some limits , bowing too much will let the pants fall down .

Some justice at last. I hope it is just the beginning.

Maybe the Japanese will finally realize that it is actually easier on themselves to make one serious, unconditional apology and truly move on, rather than have the ghost from the past haunt them indefinitely.

Not rocket science, really; the Germans figured that out long ago.

China needs to whine less about the past and try to move more honorably into the future. Enough already.
