BBC were having fun with this award - check it out on Odd Box.

A childhood dream come true! Congrats! I'm also happy that we can now add -ist to clothing items: sockist, t-shirtist... Next they'll have colonies for these people right down the beach from the nudists!

That must mean it's nraly time for the best pearlist award....

It's the aliens wot done it for Miyuki-chan. Maybe she can introduce us?

To anyone who doesn't think it is important:

“I have long wished to win the prize, as I’m a big fan of jeans,” Hatoyama said.

People who don't like this award are just not fans of jeans.

Didn't Kusanagi win this award a few years back?

check out the lovely couple from a few years back...

I think she is just jenial all round and to still have a bell bottom at 66 instead of an eyesore narrowing taper is a miracle.

Maybe she is a just a good jeaneticist who majored in jeaneology and thus, she has good jeans!

I've been pondering since last year.... is this an acheivement in jeanism, or in jeanistry?

it doesn't take a jeaneist to figure that out.

slow day on JT

Actually, the yearly announcement of the year's best jeanist is a highlight of reading this website.

Weasel - Would you believe that cute little girl standing next to Miyuki was the 2008 Best Jeanist?

This is so awesome.

After years of LDP we finally have a Japan that might be politically in tune with it's social elements.

It's time to annoy the idiots who celebrate this award and maybe wake a few of them up. Let's organise a "best kimonoka" (Duh, they say Judoka, don't dey?), or "best kimono samyoorai" award for the hollywood celebrity who looks the least embarrassed in a nylon, made-in-china bathrobe resplendant with an out-of-focus print of Mt. Fuji on it!

Wow, is it that time of year already?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And the way Kumi Koda looks, she wins the prize for looking like the best five year oldist.

A "jeanist" - now there`s a new one. Something like a communist, only in blue?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She looks OK. Not quite a Lulu though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

nope.. its not colorful at all. i think they were trying to find a nice way to say shes out of her mind so that people will like her and vicariously her husband.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

she looks very good, has got a taste in fashion, but she should not give any comments to media especially about UFO:))

Miyuki met her future husband, Yukio Hatoyama, in San Francisco, California, while Yukio was a student at Stanford University.[3] Miyuki and Yukio married in 1975, after Miyuki divorced her previous husband,[3] a restaurateur.[7] The couple has one son, Kiichiro, who is currently an engineering researcher studying in Russia.[1]

Checked out wiki about her...that's colourful?...:)

**Colorful, yes. Quirky, yes. Unlikeable? What's not to like?

And that's the cutest version of Kumi Koda I've ever seen!**

I think she looks great for 66. Weird but funny lady. Would love to sit down with her and chat over a beer, while wearing jeans and flip flops of course.

"Best Jeanist"?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The former actress said she is trying to change her husband’s rather stiff and professor-like appearance.

Wow..she sure likes all the impossible and unbelievable things in life...:)

So next year to even the score Michelle will have to be named Best Jeanist 2010 and Yukio will have to win the Nobel Peace Prize. : )

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If someone had told me these two would ever appear on stage together I wouldn't have believed it. Look out Ku-chan she's old - yosui kusatteru!!

“I have long wished to win the prize, as I’m a big fan of jeans" Hatoyama said..........what a load of hog crap!!!! As if this was on your "to do" list. What else is on it???Lets see umm next up the hot dog eating contest.

"this woman is so unlikeable"

Colorful, yes. Quirky, yes. Unlikeable? What's not to like?

And that's the cutest version of Kumi Koda I've ever seen!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

his "word" will have been used 3 times in "print."

I tried google and the only time the word appears is in Japanese newspaper articles online.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

this woman is so unlikeable. why is the media trying to hard to make her work...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dear whoever wrote this boring story, 'Jeanist' is not a word.

They used the same word last year which means that when they report on this idiotic event next year, this "word" will have been used 3 times in "print." Which means that it is likely to become English, sigh............

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have long wished to win the prize, as I’m a big fan of jeans

Whoever is behind this -ist award phenomenon has even the first lady of the second largest economy in the world spouting their nonsense like a puppet.

Illuminati?

It's back with the '-ist' awards...I thought they might have been a passing trend, once-too-many-times mocked by the JT community. But they survive!

Best Manglish Award Title Survivalist!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hey jt how about giving us a list of all these -ists competitions do jt posters can get into the action if they want haha.

btw when will the announce the best sock-ist anyway!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I for one am glad to see a Japanese first lady who actually appears to have a pulse. Far from sinking her husbands success I think she might just be someone to get people interested in politics who never were before and maybe, just maybe, provide something of a role model to certain Japanese ladies to actually take an interest in what their husbands actually do.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

do they have to mention in every single articles about the UFO and tom cruise stories ? that is ok ! we heard it ! stop bringing it back everytime !!! that is not all that define her ! find something else !

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smartacus at 07:35 AM JST - 20th October Koda is dressed like a 5-year-old.

A poorly dressed 5-year old at that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The first lady? She is the Prime Minister's wife.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Koda is dressed like a 5-year-old.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

spot on Makun!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's not even fair to make a pun about the "best of" something anymore here...Because it will actually exist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What an embarrassment. She'll do as much to sink her husband's success as any failed policy. Flake does not begin to describe this woman.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The woman does indeed look great in jeans!
