How many more ‘others’ will be affected by this trial rollout… both now and in the future as the long-term effects become apparent?

The problem is that you are assuming two things without any actual support.

One is that the vaccines will end up producing more problems, even when this has no reason to be likely.

The other is that the legion of problems that have come with covid (and that include even permanent health conditions) will magically disappear, even when almost every week a new one is identified.

Your specific example is proof this, because covid is a much more likely cause of cardiac problems, and those problems are much more serious than what is observed with any vaccine.

If your worry is about myocarditis then the only logical choice is to vaccinate, because even with the tiny risk that comes with the vaccines the reduction of the much bigger risk from covid means that vaccinated people have less risk of having this problem.

Cool. I'm not due for another one until December or so. I imagine this B.4/5-specific vaccine will be approved and available by then. After that, I think I'll also opt for annual boosters, rather than semi-annual as it is now.

Ooh. That reminds me. It's just about time for my annual flu shot.

 it is not only intelligent but essential to be concerned about the safety of these vaccines.

And to ask:

How many ‘others’?

Why are they being brushed aside?

Do their lives matter?

How many more ‘others’ will be affected by this trial rollout… both now and in the future as the long-term effects become apparent?

To be polite about it, those aren't intelligent questions

Got our Updates in August. Totally going to miss the bivalent omicron 1 booster. Got Moderna because it seemed a little better with Omicron 1&2.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Im done with this now. Had three. Now its all about revenue for big pharma.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Did you read that document? It says the study with that vaccine is ongoing!

And it also includes clinical data with previous omicron version of the vaccine which is exactly what I said. This is enough to prove beyond any reasonable doubt the vaccine is safe, and appears more effective than previous versions.

Indeed, it is no guarantee, but it is certainly at least as good as any of the offered vaccines, and providing , broader and longer lasting protection

Since reinfections are becoming more and more common (and they decrease if the person is vaccinated) this is still a baseless claim.

For younger people, the risks of severe adverse effects from the vaccine are much greater than from Covid

No, that is still false propaganda from antivaxxer sites, the conclusions from the scientific and medical communities of the world is that vaccinating decreases the risk for everybody for whom the vaccines are indicated.

Pretending the medical institutions of the world are worse at reading and interpreting the scientific literature than you just because they all agree in the opposite of what you want to believe is not a rational position.

When medical professionals openly admit there are ‘others’ who haven’t recovered from pericarditis or myocarditis as a result of Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines and boosters, and are ‘being carefully assessed, it is not only intelligent but essential to be concerned about the safety of these vaccines.

And to ask:

How many ‘others’?

Why are they being brushed aside?

Do their lives matter?

And yes, Moderna is providing clinical data for the Omicron boosters

I am now delighted to have acquired robust, broad, long lasting immunity!

That is no guarantee against reinfection...

Indeed, it is no guarantee, but it is certainly at least as good as any of the offered vaccines, and providing , broader and longer lasting protection... but without the not so uncommon risks of severe vaccine adverse effects. For younger people, the risks of severe adverse effects from the vaccine are much greater than from Covid; that is what the peer reviewed scientific studies show, not the press releases...

After zero COVID-19 vaccinations, I am now at home with COVID-19.

I haven't played my Corona Card on here just yet. Just gonna keep hold of it until I can use it to reinforce my point.

I am now delighted to have acquired robust, broad, long lasting immunity!

But you haven’t. I know several people who have had multiple infections now, some of which have been within two months of their first infection.

I hope Moderna is providing results from human trials that show effectiveness and safety, but I doubt it.

This comes more from a personal bias against the vaccines than from an actual lack of data, after all the new component is the same protein from the virus that has infected millions, proving there is no extra risk from it.

And yes, Moderna is providing clinical data for the Omicron boosters

That is no guarantee against reinfection, it is improved by vaccination and comes only as a result of running the full set of risks that the immunity is meant to prevent in the first place. Losing a hand is also a very effective way to prevent getting hurt on that hand as well, just not a very productive one.

Immunity from something you just got.

Sounds great

I hope Moderna is providing results from human trials that show effectiveness and safety, but I doubt it.

After three COVID-19 vaccinations, I recently contracted the BA.5 subvariant. I had aches and pains for a day, just like I did after the second and third vaccinations, and like I hear occurs after this fourth vaccination.

After zero COVID-19 vaccinations, I am now at home with COVID-19. I had mild aches and pains for a day; now on my second day I just have a mild fever.

I am now delighted to have acquired robust, broad, long lasting immunity!

We wouldn’t have the problems or less of them, if the viruses would also have brains and similarly split opinions and daily useless discussions. But they have not, although they are completely stupid they obviously show a very stringent and unified action against us without a single exception. What a shame for human beings.

@ken

Don't expect there to be another booster before next winter

I hope so.

But like I said, I will pass for at least one year.

So anyway I am done with these vaccines until next winter.

Like I said before, but I got debunked by our self nominated experts here...

If you got debunked it means your conclusion was demonstrated as wrong.

Number 1, 2, 3, 4 or Omicron BA1, and now Number 5 for BA4 and BA5.

Why would it be necessary to get both boosters? from where do you get that conclusion? when the original vaccines were developed, did people had to get every one that was approved? obviously not, people simply got more options to choose from, if people are recommended to get a booster right now the BA1 version is the best, but if they are still in the period where their immunity do not require any booster yet and Moderna's version is approved before they benefit from a boost then their fourth one can be from them.

And as usual, boosters are recommended because they reduce the risk from the infection, with what do you think they can be replaced?

The situation is simple, if the boosters become unnecessary because the risk is low enough then there will be no more recommendation. So if they are still recommended that means the risk is still high enough to justify it.

@design-monkey

I am actually leaving Tokyo to go back to the US next week to get this specific vaccination.

After three COVID-19 vaccinations, I recently contracted the BA.5 subvariant. I had aches and pains for a day, just like I did after the second and third vaccinations, and like I hear occurs after this fourth vaccination.

Outside Japan, people have moved on, going unmasked and treating COVID like a seasonal flu. But the last flu I had was a whole lot worse than COVID!

Get your protective flu and COVID shots, but lose the paranoia.

@Monty

It's a novel virus though, it will settle down and the shots will space out. Don't expect there to be another booster before next winter

1 ( +7 / -6 )

@Ken

Yep, you nailed the point: anual

1 shot per year...that is ok for me. (same like influenza).

But not 5 shots in less than 2 years.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

@Monty

This would be shot Number 5.

I'm just about to get my 41st flu shot next week. Probably going to be the same for COVID, annual shot slightly adjusted for whatever variant is doing the rounds that particular year but you don't hear anyone saying the same or counting the number of flu jabs they've gotten

1 ( +11 / -10 )

Like I said before, but I got debunked by our self nominated experts here...

This would be shot Number 5.

Number 1, 2, 3, 4 or Omicron BA1, and now Number 5 for BA4 and BA5.

A never ending shot madness.

No thanks.

I pass for at least 1 year.

In an effort to stem the ongoing seventh wave of COVID-19 infections powered mostly by the BA.5 subvariant, Japan started giving Omicron booster shots made by Moderna and Pfizer in September, but they are tailored to the BA.1 subvariant.

And Japan did not have much success, and in fact had some of the highest rates in the world.

Now the 8th wave looms in the background.

Best of luck.

-8 ( +8 / -16 )

Design-monkey,

I am not too far behind you. That is not the specific purpose of the trip, but I am going to avail myself anyway.

Like you I am frustrated (as I have been since the very first vaccination) at the slow roll-out on availability.

-10 ( +8 / -18 )

Good you have that option

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

I think that's a good call. Some things can't wait. No matter how careful we are we can't really ensure we won't get infected.

Moderna got out of the gates faster this time
