There are many different people. But this is another issue. humiliation

The Japanese have been blaspheming the history and culture of other countries through this magazine

According to the magazine for the children, the Japanese people ridiculed their history and culture of other countries and promotes pornography.

At the risk of crashing a (perhaps all male) party, may I add my "two cents"? The Japan Today headline was SO ambiguous that I determined to complain before reading the article itself: "MONGOLIA PROTESTS JAPANESE KIDS' CARTOON MOCKING GENGHIS KHAN"; Does it not at first suggest (as the rapidly moving eyes rush over the words) that the CARTOON was DRAWN by JAPANESE KIDS? THAT would, OF COURSE, BE WORSE as it would show that the misdeed had already been INTERIORIZED by the populace. I was greatly relieved to discover that the attack on "our" (or at least "someone's") venerable ancestor was only drawn by professionals who will soon forget it and who know how to apologize without getting all worked up about it. (There is no difference, of course, in the punctuation for COMICS FOR KIDS and COMICS BY KIDS expressed for brevity's sake as KIDS' CARTOONS. Also, it cannot be contested that newspapers need to shrink their headings as much as possible; so I guess, if Mongolia is satisfied, Japan's children may be satisfied too. )

My first question would be, why put this in a children's comic?

nandakandamanda - To answer your question literally - it's a manga targeted at elementary school boys, who tend to find anything penis-related hilarious. As you can see from your link, a kid is asked to name the historical figure whose first character is チ and whose last character is ン, To some eight year old boys, the temptation to write チンチン would be too great.

So basically it's a typical ham-fisted Japanese attempt to be funny which backfired because of a lack of cultural sensitivity, like the ANA adverts with whitey having big noses or the utterly embarrassing cases of doing blackface. They'll grow out of it once the foreign population increases. People made jokes like that in Britain when I was a kid but they don't any more.

Just think of having the blood of the history's greatest warlord in your veins! who killed millions in the process, Hitler could be considered a warlord also, but I certainly wouldn't advertise I was related to him, if i was.

Oh Mongolia, what happened to that nation? Once the worlds greatest empire, now struggling to get by and lashing out at mangas in Japan.

In a historical perspective, this might not be too bad, since Japan defeated 2 waves of Mongol invasions so deserve the right to mock the Mongols as they never lost to them

Who would even dare to mock great Genghis Khan? He's most likely the forefather of every human being in Asia,

No, he was not.

Who would even dare to mock great Genghis Khan? He's most likely the forefather of every human being in Asia, since the rape and pillaging during his conquest were dominant. Mocking Genghis Khan is like mocking your own forefather, especially if you live in Asia, but to a great extent also in eastern Europe.

Just think of having the blood of the history's greatest warlord in your veins!

Genghis Khan was a butcher, he killed millions in his conquests. i understand he holds a place in Mongolian culture, but to get upset because some draws a silly picture of a mass murderer is just ridiculous.

Gengis khan is a matter of pride in Asia - even in Japan.

Where do you get this? Perhaps in Mongolia and Mongolias in Japan. Much of Asia was dominated by Khan and sons for a very long time.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Gengis khan is a matter of pride in Asia - even in Japan. In Mongolia , they don't have that much to stand for and stay united around the same identity after the colonisation rape and uncolonisation, and wars.... it tales times to heal and they look like they healed slowly but toward peace.

It is ironic then that they choose to celebrate the most famous perpetrator of such evils.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Any cartoons or comics with Islam defamation will almost absolutely likely not be accepted and shown to masses. Japanese people are "special", but not completely retarded to let French terrorism repeat over there.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If the Japanese think insulting a cartoon insulting Ghengis Khan caused a problem, just wait till they draw a cartoon with Mohammed.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Nonsense- just another esoteric design frequently observed on Eastern statuary.

Sorry, that may have gone over your head.

I thought it was a decent crack and thumbed it up.

I just thought the d***heads were the ones in an outrage over an insult to one of history’s notorious bad boys.

Well, at least, mongolian did not came to kill the so called "artist" like in France when Charlie draws Mahomet on his newspaper's front .

Now, "a man think with his genitalia" is a tremendous realisation in this "freedom for women" time, and a really good omen for their freedom !

there's a postcard competition where young artists are invited to deface Genghis Khan and the Japanese shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga

This is fine. I know it's unpopular to state this fact (especially here, for some reason) but most of the historical figures we put on pedestals were mass murderers. Even the "good" ones.

*“According to the works of the Iranian historian Rashid al-Din (1247–1318), the Mongols killed more than 700,000 people in Merv and more than a million in Nishapur. The total population of Persia may have dropped from 2,500,000 to 250,000 as a result of mass extermination and famine.”*

I doubt the artist had this on his mind when he drew a pecker on Genghis's forehead!

Safe spaces. Give me a break. Great way to make everyone want to see the picture an all innit. Try not to offend cult like ancestor worship people.

It actually gets worse! By coincidence, my younger son bought the magazine this month, so I have it in front of me. Having seen the example of Genghis Khan with genitals scrawled on his forehead, a few pages later, there's a postcard competition where young artists are invited to deface Genghis Khan and the Japanese shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga, and send in their entries!

He is considered to father between 1000 and 2000 children, so I guess that was the message of that manga?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Who knew that Ghenghis Khan's descendants would be such delicate flowers? The horror, drawing genitalia on images of our dearly departed genocidal warrior.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Think I figured it out.

8% of men in 16 populations spanning Asia (and 0.5% of men worldwide) shared nearly identical Y-chromosome sequences.

Lots of distant relatives. Genghis Khan was believed to have at least 200 children but the numbers suggest many more. That's from a "Nature" article.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

He's also responsible for the death of millions and millions of innocent people while he conquered Eurasia. History is complicated. Feel free to admire his good qualities and what he brought to Mongolian culture... and deal with the fact that someone will occasionally (rightfully) draw a dick on his portrait.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

JImizo is right - if it sells, it will be approved in Japan, in USA,... Its just about the dignity as representatives of art - some have never had any.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Now this is just stupid. Were Mongolians more educated on other countries, they would know that there are many many individuals hit with deep perversion. Instead of making a big news about it, they were supposed to ignore this as mature, better human beings.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Whoever approved this is a real d*ckhead.

Why? This manga sounds like a piece of trash but Japanese manga publishers are under no obligation to revere Genghis Khan - a man who has been dead for nearly 800 years.

You don’t have to “revere” the man, or even be particularly offended, to regard the whole episode as a bit daft.

Not impressed.

Manga depicting Genghis Khan with genitals drawn on his head?

I think I agree manga doesn’t encourage creativity. When I was a kid we used to draw genitals and other comical images in textbooks ourselves. Textbook defacement is an art form but no ink should be used. True genius will stand the test of time and not be rubbed out.

Keep the pictures minimal and encourage the kids to explore their creativity with a pencil.
