There are monkeys in my area, but they never come near my house because my dog attacks them. He hates monkeys more than any animal other than deer.

I agree with goodlucktoyou, and you don't need 'specially trained dogs', all dogs hate monkeys–there is even a Japanese proverb to that effect. When monkeys come to our village, our dog chases them halfway up the mountain on the opposite side of the valley and they don't come back for several months.

Monkey Buisness, they are cute untill they are on your roof. But as the country side depopulates they will will reclaim their territory. And they are not malicious just inquisitive. Annoying.

Oh they are dangerous and surprisingly strong for their size, how about cute from a distance? I wish them no harm and avoid them. But I do like to see them in a natural environment. As long as I'm carrying a big stick.

The dogs are trained to patrol by themselves to protect a certain area of fields and orchards, not just their owner's home. That's why they have signs by the road saying "Watch out for dogs".

They were featured on the "Wild Japan" BBC series a couple of years ago. The orchards shown in the program are along R306, near Azumino Alps National Park.

@Cricky

They are not cute, they can be quite vicious, one once tried to attack my wife.

Tried to attack so it was fended off? I've had dogs latch onto me, not fun. A monkey I shudder to think they are carnivores with four hands. Point taken. They are native so avoid their realm is the advice I think.

Saw this on Conan talk show: He featured a story about an Indian farmer who was so fed up with monkeys stealing his crops that he painted his dog with stripes to make it look like a tiger.

The monkeys stayed away from his crops.

People forget that monkeys have very sharp teeth and can rip out your throat. Stay away and only admire from a distance. Plus they attack in packs. Except the alpha male protecting his female harem; he will kill you on his own.

just shoot a few from each group and they'll soon learn not to steal human food.
