Meningitis was the main concern.
Good question. I can't find an answer to that one.

Flu vaccinations are also for kids. Perhaps you should look left and right before crossing?

Flu vaccine is for the elderly, MRr is for children. Look left, right then left again when you cross the road. It's not rocket science.

Japan doesn't offer the MMR and parents, as stated, have to make appointments and pay for this vaccination. It ALWAYS does the rounds at daycares/kindys here and numerous kids get sick. Needless and I can only think there is some monetary reason why MMR is not here and why the mumps vaccination isn't free. Heck, kids don't even have to show vaccination records to get into public daycares/schools here. When the anti-vaxxer stance takes root here, look out!
Luddite
Idiots don't vaccinate their kids and this is what happens.
The MMR is fine, it has saved lives and prevented permanent disability.

The side effects on the public coffers perhaps? I think it's ridiculous that many vaccines are covered by national insurance, but some other equally important vaccines like this one are voluntary, meaning the patient/parents have to pay for them.

Indeed, what side effects? They couldn'tupdate/improve the vaccine in the last 15 years?

What side effects? Temporary nausea, headache, dizziness, etc?
MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella) vaccine is still required in most US states/cities in order for children to attend school. The benefits easily outweigh the minor side effects. (which of course do not include autism, which is a debunked rumor. I believe the charlatan who published the bogus "study" that started the autism nonsense was actually convicted for the crime in the UK.)

I was very surprised that National Insurance didn't cover flu vaccines. I think I paid like Y4000 for it.
You would think that in a culture that so highly values not missing work, they'd provide whatever resources they could to not getting sick.
(Ironically, in the US where it's almost always free through insurance or dirt cheap if not, I hardly ever get one, as I'm not generally exposed to crowded trains and buses full of coughing, sneezing people, and germ encrusted handrails.)
