My question to the Chinese. Why do Chinese fishing boats fish in the waters around Japan? Isn't the fish they catch tainted as they claim it is when importing?

Is the fish they catch being sold as Japanese fish? You’re assuming everyone follows the ban. I don’t think it’s an issue of hypocrisy but income opportunity. It’s also like asking why people break the law?

Because Chinese could care less about the safety of their citizens, it’s 100% political propaganda to try and hurt the Japanese economy and paint Japan negatively to their citizens.

Their cities are totally polluted, yet they take no action.

They should publicize how much more the friendly countries are buying to show the other countries' confidence in the safety of Japan's seafood

They can sell those fisheries to their good allies: US, Australia,India,Taiwan.

Why China? The country you guys hate so much!

Seems to me that China is not much different from Japan.

Every point of the previous comment applies to Japan perfectly.

Present Japan where depends to export to China while treating China as virtual enemy.

Yeah, right.

Is Japan implementing arbitrary trade bans (in defiance of WTO rules), trespassing in Chinese waters, laying claim to Chinese islands, ramming Chinese ships, stealing China's IP, conducting daily cyberattacks, practicing economic coercion, holding Chinese citizens hostage, etc.? No, that kind of "enemy" behavior is all China's.

Oh, by the way, if China really doesn't trust Japanese seafood it should stop illegally fishing in Japan's waters.

Meantime try to prevent more leaks and accidents at the plants

The Fisheries Agency has said there is no other reputational damage than the one caused by the Chinese import ban.

Good if true.

Just sell more to other countries

...while Hong Kong and Macao, both semiautonomous regions of China, also took similar measures.

They are no longer even close to being semiautonomous. Whatever China demands, they follow.

Before Xi, HK might've not put this ban in place.

People have very short memories and many were not even in Japan in 2011 when the initial radioactive contamination occurred.

Shortly after the radioactive release there was a massive drive to sell Fukushima produce all over Japan.

Celebrities and politicians appeared on social media to push the agenda.

Meanwhile green tea from as far away as Shizuoka was being rejected by the French due to high amounts of radioactive cesium etc.

Well, now the Chinese are being blamed for ‘a row’ and their refusal to buy tainted produce from Japan-it is laughable!

Who pour tainted water to sea? Is it China? Don't blame China for that.

1) Yes, China releases far worse things into the sea:

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/aug/25/fukushima-daiichi-nuclear-power-plant-china-wastewater-release

https://time.com/6311984/china-japan-nuclear-wastewater-science-politics/

...

2) As I've just posted on another thread:

The IAEA (which has Chinese experts) has stated that Japan's release would have "a negligible radiological impact on people and the environment:"

https://www.iaea.org/sites/default/files/iaea_comprehensive_alps_report.pdf

And China was invited to join an international monitoring framework for the Fukushima release, but refused:

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/09/06/japan/china-fukushima-radioactive-water/

...

In short, China just wants to use the issue as a political weapon against Japan. China cannot be trusted in any way, so Japan, and all other countries, must treat China and its market as a lost cause, and move on.

Be nice to know which, as I am willing to place a bet that Okinawa isn't one of them.

Many people dont realize that Okinawa is a HUGE exporter of fresh fish to mainland Japan from here. For example the tuna we eat down here is not frozen, but fresh, and while we dont always have the "best" it is fresh. The "best" gets flash frozen and sent to mainland or overseas, as it gets a better price!
