A 32-year-old woman and her six-year-old daughter were killed after their car crashed into a concrete wall in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, on Sunday.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 1:20 p.m. on a sloping road in Kogura Ward. The small car, driven by the woman, crashed into the wall outside a care facility for the elderly, Fuji TV reported. The woman, Shiori Yamaguchi, and her six-year-old daughter Miyu, who was in the front passenger's seat, suffered severe injuries. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. The woman's oldest daughter, aged eight, who was in the back seat, suffered head injuries and remained in a coma on Monday, police said.
Police said there were no signs of brake marks on the road and they are examining street surveillance camera footage to try and determine the cause of the accident.

@AN Other Not much fast! These K cars are built based on the premise there will be no collision! A crash at 40 k/h can easily deflate the whole front of the car till dashboard. The K car is evidence that Anzen Dai-ichi (safety first) is a lie, and Money First (for the companies building these, and government giving tax breaks to make them top sell) is the true spirit of Japan.

You do not put a child in the front seat due to airbags being lethal. RIP, I feel so bad for the father who will have to bury his wife and youngest daughter, while the oldest daughter is in a coma.

Obviously it matters, otherwise they wouldn't make a law about it.

Kei car, or yellow plate. May as well be driving a cereal packet with an engine. And very few people use seat belts. Double whammy right there

The law is through 5 years 11 months and I do not believe it matters whether the child is in the front or back seat. I have never heard of any one getting a ticket because of this like they get in the States.

Sad. Why was her daughter in the front seat at age six (obviously not in a child seat/restraint) - no laws against this in Japan
