Is Murakami really the best literature Japan has to offer?

It's truly amazing how the far-right fruitbats who frequent this site can twist a story about Haruki Murakami's new book into a vehicle for their hatred of the former American president. Bizarre.

I really liked "A Wild Sheep Chase" and "Dance, Dance, Dance" back in the 80s.

I never thought Murakami would later go through the roof in popularity.

Countries or other official groups get to nominate a candidate to be considered for the prize each year. Murakami has been Japan's candidate for the past few years, perhaps since Mr. Oe won, although I'm not sure about that.

I like the first few books I read of his - Kafka, etc. - but then it got repetitive: Deep sleep, fantasy character, deep sleep, dream like situation, deep sleep, deeper sleep.

Shoulda come to Hachioji Eki instead. They were hawking this book as crowds passed by on their commute, and nobody paid any attention

Entertaining for sure, and enjoyed by many outside of Japan. Tends to be a bit formulaic, but the stories connect to the everyday life we lead.

Die heard fans of an author being born a few years late.

5 years ealier and Nobel maybe.
