Great, I enjoy Murakami's novels and short stories

Still waiting, year after year, for that Nobel knock on the door, Haruki? lol. Bob Dylan says, "Hold My Beer..."
Don't worry! It will come...surely? The Media Sez: Any Day Now...

This is quite an interesting phenomenon. The constant mentioning of the Nobel Prize, how H.M didn't even win it after so many years and how it must be bugging the hell out of him. H.M isn't nearly as popular in Japan as he is abroad. There may be more reasons, but the strongest argument I've heard so far is that he doesn't write in a strictly Japanese style, but something between Western and Japanese styles. Maybe also because he lived abroad for a while and so is able to see a lot of things with some perspective. Both things here in Japan and things in America, for example.
And this narrative, that is, that he must be upset about not getting the Nobel Prize, is a narrative that I've only heard in Japan so far. Nowhere else. And that's because of the way he writes.

Kengo Kuma does amazing things with wood. In contrast everything that Tadao Ando designs looks like a nuclear fallout shelter.

Surely this will snag him that Nobel prize.

Its not much of a prize to win anymore.
Alfie Noakes
Really? It struck me as virtual self-parody and I pretty much gave up on him there. Wind-up Bird Chronicle is his best though, absolutely brilliant book.

If you haven’t read 1Q84 yet, it could be a great autumn or winter project.
Agreed on Alfie’s Wind-up Bird Chronicle. A fascinating blend of history and surrealism.
