N Korean missiles add urgency to Hiroshima A-bomb appeals

Those north korean missles.....well you dont need to take it seriously. They can flew in space was because their payloads were dummies. If it was installed with a real warhead, it might flew straight to the earth.

Problem is, if you're in Japan, then "straight to the earth" is plenty enough to be worried about....

Why was Hiroshima bombed? Why this place and not some other place. What did Japan do to have the US attack in the first place? What questions were asked in making the decision to use this kind of weapon.

Why was Hiroshima bombed? it was a startegic target that was not heavily guarded, also the weather at other target didnt provide good visibilty for the drop. Why this place and not some other place? Nagasaki was also attacked. What did Japan do to have the US attack in the first place? Oh started a war with the US and the annexing of China and many parts of asia, which the IJA killed millions. Americia wanted to end the slaughter. To avoid Allied casualties of course. A-bomb apologists will of course try to argue that the bombs saved more Japanese lives that they took. Then again the Japanese surrender after the bombing of Nagasaki at least proves they are not suicidal at large (count the number of A-class war criminals who chose surrender and face trial instead)

Let's not forget how many Allied POWs and Korean slave laborers were killed by the blasts.

But surely "avoiding allied casualties" was a good thing?

The Truman decision to use the nuclear weapon was to warn Stalin, the US has a super weapon to fight any Soviet aggression especially in the US,UK,France occupied west Germany. The people of Japan in WW2 has no idea at all with the dired situation of their military was facing and keep their struggle savagely.

What will the anti-nuclear/anti-war pacifists do when North Korea tests another nuclear device, followed by another missile test? Panic and cower like frightened rabbits? Frantically urge a Peace Delegation to go to North Korea to "negotiate" with Kim Jong Un, offering and appease with promises of economic and humanitarian aid to get him to cease and desist? And what will North Korea demand? Unification of North and South Korea under communist North Korea control or threaten launching missiles toward Japan and Okinawa and U.S. West Coast.

The U.N. can pass all the Anti-Nuclear, Abolish War, resolutions, etc. it wants and Kim Jong Un will laugh. Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo laughed at the 1928 Kellogg-Briand International Pact that was supposed to abolish war.

It would be a mistake for the U.N. to force South Korea to agree to a unification with North Korea for appeasement purposes. In 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain made many appeasements to Hitler, promising "Peace In Our Time". Afterwards, Hitler laughed at the appeasement and launched World War II the following year.

And at that time, 1939 was a Nuclear-Free World too.

@ pattycake, anti-U.S., anti-war pacifists and revisionists will of course argue that the A-bombs were unnecessary and Japan was already beaten and would have surrendered anyway.

So, why didn't Japan surrender sooner? The reality at that time was Japan would never surrender; their Bushido code would not allow surrender.

Japan was given the opportunity to surrender under the Potsdam Conference terms and they ignored it. The U.S. warned Japan to expect expect a "rain of ruin from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this earth" if Japan failed to accept surrender terms. After the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan was silent and refused to surrender. Even after the Nagasaki bombing, Japan still refused to surrender. The Imperial Japanese Army wanted to continue the war effort to the very last man, woman and child, never surrendering. It wasn't until after the two atomic bombings and Soviet declaration of war on Japan that Emperor Hirohito stepped in and overruled his generals and forced acceptance of surrender. Then there was the Kyuju Incident on the night of August 14-15 with an attempted military coup to stop the acceptance of surrender. Fortunately it failed.
