Narita to close 1 runway as air travel demand plunges

I wonder who travels by plane by now, me being even unable (unlawful) to go leisure running in the daytime.

Honestly some of these comments are hilarious.

People are dying, the world's economies are crashing and people are commenting on how nice the environment is now....sheesh, clueless liberals.

Runway B is inconveniently located due to land disputes with anti-airport activists, and therefore had really long taxi times, so this isn’t really that big of a loss. At least folks still flying through Narita won’t have to spend as much time on the airplane.

All those above who think this is a good thing...Wait until you want to travel again and the day of the LLC are over and the days of deeply discounted economy fares which have been artificially low for years on the main carriers are no more. See how you feel then.

The days of multiple flights to many destinations will be gone and the seats that are left will be in demand once again.

Airlines are already retiring aircraft that were scheduled to be off the books 2-3 years from now leaving them with smaller fleets rendering many schedules unable to return to 'normal'.

After being stuck at home for as long as people have been, they are going to want to take vacations!

That's right. Look at history and in the aftermath of plagues those who inherit the spoils party, party, party. Nobody ever learns anything. They forget/rinse and repeat.

At this rate, in the very unlikely event all flights are stopped from a country, that country will have to spend a significant amount of money to organise charter flights for their nationals to return home if things are too dangerous in Japan.

Highly doubt it, people care more about their own luxuries than the environment, and once this pandemic burns out, the explosion in world travel is just waiting to happen. After being stuck at home for as long as people have been, they are going to want to take vacations!

In the developed world we all fly and consume much more than we all need at the expense of clean air, water, soil.
