Newborn baby's body found in bin in toilet at aviation academy in Yamanashi

The body of a newborn baby boy was found on Thursday afternoon in a trash bin in a women's toilet at the Japan Aviation Academy in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture.

According to police, the body, placed in a plastic bag, was found by a 70-year-old female cleaner around 1:30 p.m. She told police she had last cleaned the toilet on Monday. A spokesperson for the academy said the toilets are accessible by anyone from outside the academy.

Shigeo Umezawa, president of the academy said, “We haven't yet confirmed if one of our students might have been pregnant. It looks like someone gave birth to the baby in the toilet. If she couldn't afford to raise the child, she could have consulted me because I would have been willing to adopt him.”

The president is right. What's wrong with some of these people that treat infants like pieces of meat? Baby hatches, or even leave them by the police or something. No need to kill your own baby. Sickening.

you will see that someone will try to defend this woman's actions. this is the second one in the last few months, remember the one that said she thought it was a doll. try to have the plumber come and fix the toilet. sick sick world.......I would have been willing to take the child..........

A 70 year old woman has to clean toilets, thats not fair, she should be enjoying retirement.

As sad it is, this kind of atrocity happens in every country in the world. There is no easy answer. The mother was obviously sick and distressed. Until the mother is found it is impossible to speculate on the circumstances or reasons for the disposal of this baby. I'm not defending this woman's actions. I'm just pointing out that jumping to the wrong conclusion and generalizing this as a Japan specific problem is wrong!

Fair_dinkum...I tend to agree. But, you call folks you commit suicide "twits", but want sympathy for someone who tosses a new born in a trash bin. Care to explain?

there are no excuses for such behavior just reasons we do not understand. well, she must face herself everyday in the mirror. I wonder if she even cares.

Jersey mate, suicidal people are twits. Most of them are just attention seeking selfish individuals. It is much easier to take your own life than to throw away a baby. I see no connection between the emotional states at all.

People do desperate things when they are pushed too far. Generally a good advice to all: Learn to use a condom!

a baby being found in locker at a train station.

Great book, but terrible real-life event

Has anyone here considered the possibility that the baby was still born? Not to condone her actions but it is one thing to abandon a living baby and quite another do abandon a dead one. However, either way you look at it, this woman did something that is near incomprehensible.

But as someone has already alluded to, infanticide is part of the human equation.

Yes there is: BABY HATCH!

This has made me feel sick - I literally feel nauseous. How can anyone do such a thing? Just horrible

Baby hatches are a good thing for people who have the right state of mind to act responsibly, but there is only one baby hatch in Japan. Maybe they could franchise them and put them into all the 7/11 stores around Japan. Heck, we could even go one further and have 7/11 selling them too.

Wow, I just looked up the "baby hatch", that is some crazy $&*#. Well i guess if this would stop mothers from doing this, then I guess I can't argue this.....damn.....Japan is falling apart.

You're right! They either have to have zero baby hatches, or have them slotted on ATMs at banks and 'kon-bi-nis'!

Or, perhaps someone could see that a few more baby hatches (not at 7-11s!) might help alter events such as what happened this time.

The ugly, horrid spectre of "SELF" rises again! may this little one rest in Peace. I hope that they find the woman who did it and lock her away for life....

Perhaps if adoption and counseling were more available and practiced in this country, women in this state of mind could get the help they need and the baby allowed to live.

Noone else thinks its gross the Academy's toilets weren't cleaned from Monday till Thursday afternoon? Communal toilets need to be cleaned daily!
