I'm sure China can come up with a centuries old map that says it is theirs.

I'm sure China can come up with a centuries old map that says it is theirs.

Well that being said, I do have a map that claims this island belong to my family too!

"submarine volcano".... Damn, that must have been one hell of a big ship!

That’s still no island as there is a definition for an island, describing some necessary points like sand, earth, insects, plants, birds, animals or such. Only some hot visible former lava above sea level is not an island yet.

I'm sure China has already claimed it and is getting the dredges ready,

I'm sure China can come up with a centuries old map that says it is theirs. Then Korea will come up with a centuries old map that says it is theirs. And of course, Japan will come up with a centuries old map that says it is ours and claiming it was named XYZ for centuries..

Communist China will claim the island soon. Guaranteed.

Japan should investigate the possibility of stationing a small military base on the island, to protect it and preserve the EEZ around it.

Respectfully, you may be overthinking this.

Rock, Paper, Scissors!

Who's going to win?

China keeps playing Paper.

Korea keeps playing Scissors.

Japan keeps playing Rock.

So, who's going to win now?

This is and was since ancient times China's land (or was it Korea's - all the same).. the imperialist Japan should keep their grubby boats away, China has old documents proving how they landed there first, over a millennia ago .

This is and was since ancient times China's land

Must be a joke…lol 1200 km South from Tokyo , it also hasn’t been China’s land anytime in history.

If China contests the seabed from which the island came, it could try to claim it.

@GBR48 Your post just made my day. My favorite part...

Friday: US destroyer arrives and collides with island. Island sinks. US declare victory and vanish in the night.

Saturday: The Island Incident becomes a point of contention between China, South Korea and Japan for the next two centuries.

Absolutely brilliant!

I didn't think I had to mention it, my previous message was a joke...

Time to get an application in for the next Olympics there. Would be great for MTB, aquatic sports, surfing etc. Unfortunately the athletics will be C-shaped!

That 9 dash line can expand to incorporate the island in question, add a few more dashes, then if nature decided to reclaim, contract accordingly.

The Chinese will try to claim it.

I wonder why Japan doesn't try to make artificial lands to solve the land issue.

I wonder why Japan doesn't try to make artificial lands to solve the land issue.

Really ???!!!!... Have you ever heard of Odaiba (Tokyo), Wakasu Island (Tokyo), Kansai airport, Rokkō Island (Kobe), Port Island (Kobe), and many more artificial land built on the sea???.. Is Dejima Island sound familiar??.. (built in 1634 but later it was absorbed by more land reclaimed from the sea)..

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I'm sure China has already claimed it and is getting the dredges ready,

don't worry, if they find oil over there you can be 100% sure the USA will send some troops

That place has erupted several times in the past, in which it created a new island a few times. But, unlike Nishinoshima, it got washed away every time by waves in few years and disappeared.

Has China claimed it yet?

Has China claimed it yet?

Just hope it erupts while they are landing on it and wipes the landing force out. That would be justice served.

New islands have been confirmed in the area in 1904, 1914 and 1986, with all of them having submerged due to erosion by waves and currents.

Sounds like new islands were washed away by waves and currents. Waves may erode the outer layer of the islands but not the core body of it. So the islands' submersion deep into the sea must have been caused not by waves but by volcanic activities.
