And this is in addition to the leak of contaminated water during a transfer operation that was reported yesterday correct? Getting pretty disgusted with all this fantastic news, but then hey yippee, we got the Olympics, and more taxes down the road! Life is good, smell the roses...wilting roses...

Exactly! We don't know how much radioactivity has left the plant nor is the Japanese government able to stop its spread all over Japan. This is a crime against humanity, not least the Japanese people.

I'd like to ask TEPCO where it is not leaking?

8 ( +8 / -0 )

NEW leak? Can they even tell it is new?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

There seem to be so many accidental leaks that you begin to wonder are they accidental of is this the way that they have decided how to get rid of radioactive water. Remember the bean counters in industry. If we do it the right way it will be very expensive, if we keep having accidents it will be a lot cheaper. I sincerely hope that I am wrong. But this has been a long story of cutting corners.

lol - seems no day with a new leak. assuming one new leak every day over the past two years means at least 800 "new" leaks in total

Daily reports:

traffic

leaks

contaminated water had accumulated within barriers around the tank, and may have flowed past the barriers.

So what is the meaning of "barrier"? Conduit? TEPCO have a special dictionary, I think.

This water is highly contaminated, and now in a soil, into the water system. But yesterdays's news sayd that Yoshinoya is going to use food from Fukushima? It's exactly poison to my country for money. This is exactly CRIME!!

Why experts in a world don't do something? Why UN doesn't demand Japan give control of this problem to real experts, not TEPCO amakudari stupid men?

Someday, if we are still around, a movie called "The Japan syndrom" will be playing. Hollywood is working on a script I bet right now.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Where's Abe?! Do that Olympic speech again for me, will ya?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

A "change of tune" would be nice ! How about one morning seeing a JT headline saying : "Thanks to foreign experts help, Fukushima is FINALLY really under control..."

3 ( +3 / -0 )

They installed barriers to stop the flow of water when leaks occurred? Are they serious? Why are they using tanks that are prone to leak? I just can't believe these clowns! Yeah Abe, it is under control, isn't it?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

By "new leak" I'm sure they mean "leak we hadn't noticed yet".

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Trouble is the tanks are designed as a temporary storage facility but with 400 tons of radioactive water being produced each day the tank farm is growing more and more every week. Any pretense that leaks are an anomaly is pure deceit on TEPCO and the governments part. link here for some info http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23779560

Absolute gong show.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

If this report reflects the official communication I see that a new threshold has been passed: no more apologize!

This means free contamination and pollution is now acceptable.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I semi-joke that JT needs to make a separate "J-cops' Crimes" section, but they really DO need to make a section especially for TEPCO leaks. This is on top of the 4-tonne leak yesterday, comes after Abe says "Everything's under control" and announcements from Yoshinoya they are going to be farming in the prefecture for their food, etc. Get some REAL experts in there! And stop sub-contracting for construction and clean-up!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I would laugh if it wasn't so serious, the whole TEPCO board should move there as they claim that they have everything under control, they surely wouldn't mind living there, everything is save right?

My first job after college was working for a hazardous waste disposal firm who had a secret pipe to the Mississippi River. The owner's favorite saying was, "We'll close the barn door after the horses are gone." Could be a company motto!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

...and the "madness" continues.... What a JOKE!!!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I have the feeling that N-contamination is the new norm, might be time to move and watch heart rendering exposé on TV rather then be part of it. Maybe the Samurai sprit died with the samurai. Certainly attention to detail has.

Until recently, only one worker was assigned to 500 tanks in a two-hour patrol.

Wow. There were 3 ojisans working a single parking lot entrance at my Costco!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

the mess is getting worse every week isn't it... the contaminated water has to be dumped somewhere else other than the ocean so why don't they just build another 450 ton water tank and pump the radioactive water into it. this way you can seal the toxic material away from spilling into the ocean and continue to build a barrier around it to shut out the toxic radiation.

Interesting theory, Blackwell, and perfectly plausible.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Warewaeenihonjin - It's your country mate. You should know the answer to those questions.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

NO new leak would be a news

1 ( +1 / -0 )

As Roseanne Rosanna Dana once said , " it's always something ." Only this is not funny.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

The tank was already nearly full, but workers pumped in more contaminated water into it to maximize capacity

What? It's nearly full, but if you fill it up more, there will be more space?

Do these goons understand anything?

Same problem, different title.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Well done on the opening sentence Mari, very true!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

What's new on that? Same old story.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

No more a ho-hum crasher. As long as incidents like this is reported on a daily or regular basis people will take this as routine and no longer a shocker. So, permission to keep on dumping.

remove any contaminated soil.

Then what? The soil can be removed but it will still be contaminated, for a long time. I saw the BBC news report showing the stored soil, how long is that stuff going to sit around, and most importantly, where?

At 430 litres a time, it's going to take them a heck of a long time to do that.

This radiated-water leak works out very well for Yoshinoya (Gyudon restaurant). They announced this week that they will start a major Vegetable and Rice growing effort in Fukushima Prefecture. Might as well use the constant leaks of water to produce 'glow-in-the-dark' (radiated) Rice and Veggies to go along with their 'Franken-fruit' that is grown in the prefecture...and sold throughout Tokyo and Japan. I also heard Japan Government is brow-beating Korea and other Asian countries into lifting the ban on imports of (potentially-radiated) seafood from eastern Japan. I want to hear PM Abe-san, TEPCO President, and Parliament tell the world that they will be eating that produce. They need to punish all these companies involved, including the foreign companies that are responsible for filtering this radiated water (send them packing back to their countries and get new batch of better-qualified technologies imported). At least we are not hearing much in the press any more from that foolish French commentator (shill for TEPCO?) that previously claimed...'Don't worry; its not significant amount'.

A mere drop in the ocean, blame the rain again, damn the weather.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Who leaked this to the news agencies!

Sewer rats.
