A 53-year-old newspaper deliverywoman was attacked and injured by a bear in Kazuno, Akita Prefecture, on Sunday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. Fuji TV reported that the woman was delivering a newspaper to a house at the foot of a mountain forest area when a bear came up on her from behind.
The woman told police the bear, which was about one meter long, hit her on the back and knocked her against the side of the house. The bear then fled back into the mountains.
Police said the woman suffered injuries to her back but her condition is stable.
Police said there have been several bear sightings reported in the area recently.
