Just because it's bad for your business doesn't mean it's unrealistic. The health of the people trumps your business.

I agree with Kaori Koga san.

It is impossible to keep social distance in a small tiny Girls Bar.

And the main reason why people are going there is to come in close contacts with the Girls.

And nobody wants to talk to a beautiful Girl who has a mask or a shield on.

There are only 2 options:

Keep it going like it is

Force them to close

”Government urges nightlife sector to be more realistic in controlling the spread of the virus.”

SHUT THEM DOWN!!!

Blame shifting and passive-aggressiveness. Well, colour me surprised.

An online certification system? Sounds like somebody wants to make some money!

How about the govt legislates to ban this industry for the time being, since we cannot understand their reality?

Neither the central government nor the Tokyo metropolitan government are making efforts to come up with a fundamental solution (as in virus countermeasures),

duh, and who is it that doesn’t understand reality? I wouldn’t pay a single yen to have this bimbo talk to me

If your business requires close contact with people, the smart people would find some other business to be in for the next few years.

Japan's economy is now slowly being reduced to service-based one where nightclubs and prostitutes are vital for national economy. I often wonder myself that if I ended up in Thailand here instead of Japan. Years of Abenomics finally come into fruition.

Basically they are wanting the government to tell them to close so then the government will pay them to close and they can get the .......... hand out.

Koga said social distancing, as requested by the government, is unrealistic for their businesses, as many clubs are small, and compliance may mean only two customers can be entertained at one time. As it is, wearing masks makes chatting and toasting hard for clients and hosts, she added.

Um........so?

If you can’t comply, then shut down. I am sympathetic to arguments that the government should provide financial assistance to those that do. But I have zero patience for the argument Koga makes that the rest of society should bear the significant risk and cost of an outbreak because its hard for hosts to chat with clients through a mask and they need to pack people into crowded spaces to turn a profit.

They deserve every but of public anger they are getting if that is their position.

@Do the Hustle

Are you saying "Shut the (Central) Government down" ?

Don't know if we'd notice were that the case .... would we ?

Call it what it is. Red light districts of Japan around every trainstation needs to just shutdown. Its non-essential in life to protect people from spreading the virus IMHO.

"Neither the central government nor the Tokyo metropolitan government are making efforts to come up with a fundamental solution (as in virus countermeasures)," Kaori Koga, representative director of the Nightlife Business Association, told a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan.

Here's an idea - close it down until there are zero new cases of CoVid 19 and/or there is a vaccine?

"Nothing will change if you only criticize us as the villains here,"

So they should risk more people's lives just to make a buck now? They obviously don't care about the health of the people in general, do they? Seems like Japan has a bunch of people just as stupid as those Trump-lovers who keep hounding our statehouses to 'ipen up'.

SHUT ALL THESE PLACES (FOR THE TIME BEING), NOW!

"Outcall-only" services?

I agree with the posters above who say shut it down.

It’s obvious that they are not interested in public health. They sell sex, or at least the idea of it, and their business model entails close contact. It’s pretty brazen of Ms. Koga to tell the government to come up with a solution to their problems.

Superfluous

Wait a minute, isn't prostitution illegal in Japan!?

What the hell, with the tax payers subsidizing it!??
