What's the point if kissing is prohibited?

16 ( +18 / -2 )

I really can't imagine health protocols in night life businesses working out very well. But if it works, it works. I'll still avoid these places even if they're open, there's still a risk

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Stupid.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Those aren’t rules. Its common sense.

Why can’t each nightlife business come up with their own guidelines based on their knowledge. Waiting from government takes too long.

"As much as possible, kiss only with your partner, and avoid deep kissing,"

I laughed harder than I should have...i mean..okay lmao

The host and hostess scene provides a kind of safety net for many Japanese seeking work, particularly single mothers, said Kaori Koga, representative director of the Nightlife Business Association.

More than a million people are estimated to work in the industry, she said.

Nice spin. While single mothers do hostess work, "companion" work, and even sex work, this is not a desirable situation. Public childcare is also generally not available at night.

If you include bars and izakayas, a million people may work in places selling alcohol (here, "mizu"), but hostess/host bars employ well short of that figure. They are not a source of wealth creation.

A. If people don't go, they won't open.

B. If they don't open, people won't go.

Which is the better argument?

since1981

I vote for B: easier to control maybe

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women

No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark

Everyone around me is a total stranger

Everyone avoids me like a cyclone ranger

Everyone

The Vapors summed up the situation pretty well. Anyone else turning Japanese?

It does provide a net, but not a safety net.

The coronavirus isn't the only thing you can catch in those sort of places.

It must be tough. Hang in there, Pukey2!

or... you could go home and spend time with your family instead of kissing and groping hookers

kiss etiquette

What a good laugh! I have an idea for you. How about making one of those government issue campaign videos show how to kiss and what not. Maybe we could require all the love hotels to show the video as they check into the room. You know, like when you get on an airplane.

Sure, good luck with that after a drink or two LOL.

Masayuki Saijo, director of virology at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, said it was not appropriate to discriminate against people based on where or when they work.

While the kiddies all make jokes about kissing... hihihi! I commend the Director of Virology's comment above as one of the only sane and mature remarks in this click bait news and comments section...

companies could start their own in-house daycare centers for single parent employees who would be able to spend evenings with their kids

You hit the nail here.

Forget the almost respectable host /hosted bars, what about the pink salons, fashion health, soaplands, etc. All perfectly legal but are they open? Or are they practicing some bizarre kind of social distancing?

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Condom use is still uncommon after all these years, so good luck stopping kissing.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

That means no kissing, no sharing plates and conversation should be at right angles to avoid droplet contamination.

"As much as possible, kiss only with your partner, and avoid deep kissing," Iwamuro told a news conference, outlining what he described as "kiss etiquette".

I needed a good laugh today! Do they do these conferences with a straight face while saying this tripe?

No touching is more appropiate than no kissing.

Either way doesn't work with drunk people.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

laughable....stop these nonsense restrictions and just fricken close these places down for a few weeks.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Sorry, I only do acute or obtuse angles. BTW, I am left handed. That's discrimination.

> As much as possible, kiss only with your partner, and avoid deep kissing

Yeah....my partner told me don't touch her unless it's the weekend and the kids are away. And I only do it to win, I don't do things on a shallow basis. What else you got?

Strategic testing in the nightlife districts of Tokyo to raise the city's alert to the highest "red" level on July 15.

Oh I get it. Nightlife district. Red Alert. Highest level. Red Light districts......... I see what you guys did there. Pretty sneaky. The message is clear here. There's going to be a special event in your nearest red light district on July 15. Everyone be there!!!!

Most of them won't close. They didn't during the SOE - They just locked the door and let regulars know which number to call first. No law to enforce closure anyway.

How about putting those personable skills to use in the new forming economy gals. May earn a bit more self respect for yourselves in the meantime, instead of fleecing drunk oyajis for a living who keep trying to feel your tits. You’ve had a good run until now. I get it, easy pickings if you have a good head on your shoulders. All those brand goods and este’ sessions.

perhaps now, time to level up and call it quits, at least for the time being. Continuing to try and operate under corona is just ridiculous, especially in a megalopolis like Tokyo. It’s a sordid little Industry and a trap for many lovely ladies which kills true potential in their prime as far as I’m concerned. Put those talents to better use. Good conversation is hard to find!

In a (very) near future :

I am now ok for a massage from a robotto, says the Japanese in Corona era.

By the way, where is the emperor ( I know, not linked to the article, but still to my remark if you follow) ?

Disinfecting the microphone and trying to cop a kiss from the nearest hostess lends a whole new meaning to singing the classic My Way by Frank Sinatra.

We have heard opinions like this for literally centuries. Hostesses and other fill very real human needs that are never going away no matter how much whining and derision is done. I would prefer to see all people who want them in very real, loving and completely satisfying relationships myself, but alas there are always going to be people left out and many of them will turn to something more shallow just to make life worth living. But some people cannot even bring themselves to admit any of this or come up with better methods of salving human discontent.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

vanessa, all that is true, but during corona it’s a no brainer. Prioritize your thoughts.

“What's the point if kissing is prohibited?”

At last, something I agree with

They should all be closed until the virus is wiped out. Which part of 1.5m apart don’t they understand? Tokyo will never get on top of this virus until they take hard action against stopping crowds. People can look forward to this virus hovering around in Tokyo and Japan in general for at least the next few years. It only takes 1% of the people to infect 20% of the population and these little bars, karaoke and sleaze pits are the perfect breeding ground to keep this virus thriving for years.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

No kissing and disinfect the microphone

Somebody tell those scientists at Oxford that they can shut it down. Japan has discovered something better than a vaccine. And no needles!

Why oh why are we so backwards as a nation :(

How embarrassing.
