People are gradually weighing up the apparent risks, and choosing to live their lives despite the constant bombardment of fear.
Worth noting is that if you feel threatened, you have the option to board up in your own home until cases are down to zero...

NTT Docomo's "subscriber data"..... is that like saying 'pinpoint realtime tracking of individuals' I wonder....?
and what are "points"? does that mean percentage? or what? without clarification, numbers are meaningless....

People have been through enough at this point. With the warmer spring like weather and the vaccines starting to arrive, good luck telling people to stay home all day.
memoryfix
Early spring this year. And cherry blossoms coming along in a couple weeks or so. People missed their Hanami events totally last year. What do you think they’re going to do?
And so, cases are going to start crawling back up. Not to where they were in early January, but back up a little. So, what’s Japan going to do then? They really want to show good numbers for the Olympics. What are they going to do? Introduce even another state of emergency? And every time cases crawl up until the Olympics?
Ridiculous situation.

Universities are opening back up for on-campus classes. Virus? No vaccines? No worries!

By all means, All you ‘more tests & lockdown merchants’ should stay home & lock your doors.
But everyone else, As long as you take precautions & use common sense, get out & live your lives !
Mark
So we are being watched!, Who said that people surveillance is not happening, I remember what Mr. Snowden once said " if you own a mobile phone every step or move you make is being monitered"

This is what happens when you get a translated document and the translator gives a direct translation.
In effect, it forces the reader to scratch their head and wonder "huh?"
It should read "percentage" , just like they report it on the tv news.

Warm weather may encourage people to go out.... I'd suggest they avoid crowds and partying occasions, and instead choose open spaces in countryside.
Monty
Yep, I felt that too on my way back from work on saturday.
More people are out.
People want to go back to their normal lives.
According my friends in my home country, it is the same situation.
Even new infections over there are still in crazy numbers, people start to travel, going back to offices, more and more people stop wearing masks...
People are tired after 1 year.
More and more people say the Virus is not so dangerous as predicted.
Therefore people are ready to take the risk to get infected instead of being locked down forever.
Because the Virus will not dissapear. It will be always around, even after the vaccine is implemented.

No surprise.
Every morning the city office speaker is screaming, asking residents for take prevention measures, avoid unnecessary outings.... At some train station, JR does the same,
After a while, nobody does listen anymore to all that public demands and go on with their life. That’s normal when the risk to catch the virus, here in Japan, is low. Only Tokyo area is under SOE, people are going on with that virus. It is not a new and scary thing anymore, and everyone has to live with.
Japanese contradiction. Asked to stay home but you can attend events if any

No one missed Hanami last year. Mrs. Abe and that ‘News’ boy had a blast on Instagram and Facebook. “Appropriate precautions were taken for the 20 people present...”

thank you....... no TV....
Yubaru
Smart! I quite literally only watch TV nowadays to see the news.
virusrex
"Pretty much" is still a much higher amount of risk than, for example, vaccines. It also deeply indicates the person to be interested only on himself to completely disregard the risk that means to others to help in the spreading of the disease.
Also, scientifically has been proved than mask have a very important role in reducing the spread of the infection, considering them useless is a proven mistake.
Goodlucktoyou
Simple,
elderly or sick, stay home.
young and healthy, live life.
paranoid, stay home.
coming from a foreign country, stay away.
virusrex
It is well know that every problem have a simple solution, that is also completely wrong.
The scientific and medical community in general have debunked this "solution" as worthless because the frequency of spreading done by people without symptoms means that the only way to efficiently protect vulnerable people is to keep the rates of infection in the general population as low as possible.
Ignoring this do not make it disappear, "live life" is still a terribly bad advice.
tinawatanabe
>and what are "points"? does that mean percentage? or what?
"points" and "percentage" are different things. If you say two point increase, it means two points of percentage increase, which is different from two percentage increase.

If I believed this metropolitan area of 38 million people actually only had 200 new cases a day, I’d be going to a new izakaya every day as back in the old days.
The ones who ignore the news around the world and believe the numbers are magically low here for no reason... will live life like nothing’s happening. Can’t judge them on that, this is what the government has been cultivating since the beginning and here it is, they got it.
Ignorance is bliss
Raw Beer
This of course requires a reference that proves it, a personal opinion simply have no weight.
Yeah, like the vaccines, which they as continually pushing on us and which may end up causing more harm than good.
Do the hustle
Aren’t all bars and restaurants supposed to be closed at 8pm? What a joke!
carpslidy
The government can take their sweet time distributing the vaccine, yet people should feel bad for going out?
The government won't pay for restaurants, shops, businesses to close, yet people shouldn't go out and spend money?
Charmaine Dela Cruz
Japanese may have mastered the art of wearing masks, but they have no concept of social distancing.
justasking
The only reason you get to get out alive is because of the people who chose to stay home.
Do you really think you can "physically distance" if everyone is out and about?
smithinjapan
That’s what happens with lip-service laws. Just hope they don’t act surprised when the numbers of infected shoot up again. Remember, Japan is the last and slowest developed country to vaccinate, but people are acting like the whole thing is over.
Jimizo
Have some guts. Stick with your principles and refuse to wear one.
Too many people not walking the walk these days.

It is very easy to find out medical and scientific professionals debunking this mistaken idea as wrong, the vulnerable population has no realistic way to be protected while the pandemic is rampant, no matter how much people with interests different from the public health want to repeat it.
There is no scientific or medical association in the world that thinks this scenario as even possible, the infection has demonstrated to be much more dangerous than what could ever happen realistically with the vaccines, fortunately the population is becoming aware of how this fear mongering argument is being proved false every day.

My boss emailed us on Friday night to say he expects us all back in the office from tomorrow.
He took on four new staff on the understanding that this was a work from home job a couple of months ago.
We can work from home perfectly well, but he prefers to drag us in.
The man's a buffoon.
Sven Asai
That’s by far not representative data. For example I doubt that customers of other and cheaper communication companies have the same resources to travel around extensively or go by train for shopping in the city at the same numbers or frequencies. So while NTT customer data shows rising numbers, the bigger part would have shown lower numbers. You can see that too in the daily infection rate and an excellent low stand of infections compared with other countries. Summed up, the interesting effect is that the pandemic leads to economic downturn and that downturn then leads to less pandemic.
Goodlucktoyou
You disagree with me but agree with me?
Fact, vaccinated people spread the virus.
Fact, old and sick people have serious infections, young people have mild or asymptotic experiences.
Such thinking is being banned on social media, even by accredited virologists, doctors, researchers etc.
google South Korea deaths...
virusrex
No, your quote makes it perfectly clear that the only way to protect vulnerable people is to reduce to a minimum the spreading on the general population, which is exactly the opposite of what you propose. Calling a "solution" simple AND wrong is not agreeing with you, it means your solution is not a solution at all.
According to science do it in a lesser degree, which is an expected extra positive effect of vaccination, so together with all other hygienic and social distancing measures can be said to have a strong effect preventing the spreading of the disease, this is the only way found to efficiently prevent spreading to vulnerable population.
Generally only, young people also can have heavy infections and even die. Also young people infected with mild or asymptomatic infection are a very effective way to spread the infection to people that will die from it.
A reference? how about anybody that has data to prove it? the usual people brought here are people found guilty of lying for personal profit or that went all the way in in their beliefs of woo and anti-scientific conspiracies.
This actually prove the contrary, after millions were immunized and people had serious troubles at the same rates than unvaccinated people fear mongering tried to make it as if the deaths only happened to vaccinated people until it was proved false, the vaccine was proved to not increase any important risk for the people vaccinated.
El Rata
People don't care anymore, good for them. This pandemic is not as bad as they want us to believe specially here in Japan.
0rei0
Worth noting? According to whom?
commanteer
Some people are just outraged, outraged beyond forgiving, that people they don't know are daring to take their chances and live their lives like human beings rather than fearful and caged rats.
Life is about living, not hiding from inevitable mortality.
Vinke
@commanteer
Yes, because that’s incredibly selfish, irresponsible and foolish behaviour. Only about ‘me,me,me’.
Personally I’m also outraged to some people I do know, so much so that I can’t call such people my friends anymore. Have no desire to interact with people who are so egocentric and uninformed.
The bottom line is, that if everyone worked together for a while and really refrained from unnecessary outings and socialising, less people would need to face that “inevitable mortality” before their time.

My mathematical model puts my numbers at reaching herd levels. This virus was in Japan last September 2019. Came across mildly but then that Passenger Ship the Princess brought in a lot of infected obese, out of shape and unhealthy people.
So overall, Japan has been physically handling the virus well. Of course sometimes people have died and not expected, but that is biology and life.
Japan is doing great. Did you see today’s numbers?
Mark
Just wanted to add this, even if you turn off your phone, it is still active and can be monitored according to experts. google it!?

Can you share this model with us? I have the Stata and SPSS packages ready to go.

Hmmm... "me, me me?" Look at your own post. You are referring to yourself and demanding that others change their behavior to satisfy you.
