Shameless arrogance. Criminality of the most perverse kind. Appallingly abhorrent... in fact, words can not fully describe this totally ammoral behavior.

Prison time. Serious prison time for those who allowed this to happen.

News of corporate fraud and criminal actovity have literally become a daily thing in japan.

There's a surprise. What won't be a surprise will be the complete absence of any prosecutions or punishment of the people who failed to uphold the "legally binding" safety rules.

just like america, but japan should of learnt by a thousand years how to live a fruitful life. we can excuse america because they are relatively new with no real culture and they always have bad captains steering the ship, but hey, Japan, time to wake up and use your brains!

In every case when safety inspection or periodic checks are bypassed a nuclear accident incident has occurred. Sad

Scandal after scandal, but we all know what will happen - TV will still be flooded by programmes and segments over emphasising how some normal food is the greatest thing ever tasted, and come election day Abe and his cronies will be reelected.

Fake Japan will continue to exist and the general public will continue to bury their heads in the sand, ignore the scandals, yet get on their high horses as soon as they find out a Chinese factory has been packaging some food incorrectly.

Reading crap like this is depressing as hell, can authorities do ANYTHING right for Japan?? Please I am begging for some good news, progress, something, that doesn't always point Japan heading towards another cliff!!

At times like this I want to just pack a suitcase & buy a one-way ticket....another generator in the basement or where water EASILY collects, in-frigging believable, EXCEPT here in Japan, its simply normal. depressing!

No mention of penalties or charges, as usual. Allowing large amounts of water to flow into the generator housing is unforgivable! Every person involved in the nuclear power industry in Japan needs to be shown the old science-fiction movie, the China Syndrome. If the electricity and cooling fails at this facility science fiction will become science-fact. The movie scenario about nuclear fuel rods losing their cooling system and melting into the earth's crust causing a major volcanic eruption. It could have happened in Fukushima except for ex-PM Kan screaming at the TEPCO boss to get his people back in there and control it. The ex-TEPCO CEO told everybody to get out of the plant and run for the hills. It just seems to me that, Japan cannot be trusted with honest and conscientious operation of nuclear power. Therefor, they should not have it. Even that photo looks likes a scene straight out the 70's.

Another pork-barrel black hole for political cash like the fast breeder reactor Monju. This vitrification plant is plagued with some many problems, it has not produced a single ingot of glass embedded waste.

They’re going to check all the facilities and 600,000 devices in the next two and a half months? That’s a lot of turning devices on and off, running tests, seeing that they work properly in a short period of time. Unless “checking” means “look at, check the box on the safety sheet, and move on to the next one.”

14 years! This should be a national scandal and the regulators should be jailed or fired and a new one without ties to industry put in place. But we know nothing will happen. The nation is the rug to bury under any and every issue. It's just so sad

But the Rokkasho plant has been riddled with problems, with its completion date postponed 23 times since 1997, its initial target. (That's a problem). Might be a technology that's beyond reach...... for the last 20 years. Need to check 600,000 parts as some may not have been checked for 14 years if at all. That can't be good.

Now im not an expert but we are talking about a NP handling one of the, if not greatest dangerous substances known. Would have assumed a "Saftey first" policy, obviously not!

Dont think retraining will help with this one. Japan's nuclear industry is a bigger danger to Japan than any outside threat.

I thought the first paragraph was rather damning of the regulator who clearly should be pointing the finger at themselves. How could the company, JNF.Ltd be allowed to fail to do safety checks for over a decade! What has the Regulating Authority been doing for the last 10 years should be the biggest question here! If the Regulating Authority is asleep at the wheel for Japanese Nuclear industry then anyone with a 100km radius of a nuclear plant or processing facility should be rather concerned!

Quality in Japan has always been a big myth.The reason the world thought everything made in Japan was so great was other Asian countries didn't have the resources to create anything worthwhile. That has all changed now that many Asian countries have grown up and produced products on the same level or far better than Japanese products with a better price point I might add.

Finally, the chickens are coming home to roost. As a long-term resident of Japan, I could not believe how so many Japanese people were working at jobs without any sort of training or skills. Japanese just follow rules, and I would have to say a lot of bad rules at that. Corporate Japan has lost its way in the world and just cannot compete at a level the rest of the world competes at. Important jobs require skills not just bodies.

It almost beggars belief...six years after the Fukushima melt throughs and they still think it's a good idea to locate emergency generators in the basement.

It seems Japan has started a new trend. Instead of companies reporting earnings, they are reporting all the lies and miss truths they have compiled. First Nissan, then Kobe Steel, now the Japan Nuclear Fuel inc.! I wonder who will be next? If you have a scandal, now is the time to get it out there, with the public being hit with wave over wave of scandal, they will become numb to the fact that everything they believed about quality and made in Japan, was a big myth!

Failure of checks went on for 14 years! 14!! What else is being missed? And why are they putting EMERGENCY diesels underground? Haven't they learned anything from Fukushima's triple meltdown?
