Keep up the good work, TEPCO!!

Whatever he's smoking, I'll take an ounce.

No-one else, in Japan or abroad, truly wants sole responsibility of this problem. The storage tanks and removal of fuel rods are really anyone's guess as what should be done and how things might turn out.

We end up having to put our faith in TEPCO's hands as there is no other so-called expert with a 100% clear and safe solution to all of this. And that's the scary thing.

This must be as difficult as the first landing on the moon. Good luck TEPCO and prayers to employees risking their lives for future of Japan.

"Tanaka also urged TEPCO to exercise the utmost caution when it starts taking used nuclear fuel rods from a cooling pool at Reactor No. 4."

Sure wish I could get paid to simply state the obvious...

TEPCO is doing just fine. but they need more supports from government. Financial and laboring field. they should send more to the damaged area to rebuild, recycle and reorganize. Keep up the good work, TEPCO!!

It will be under control once they pass the legislation to stop the press from reporting things and stop people from talking to foreigners about what is going on. Control the press and the whole situation is under control

All too true unfortunately.

"For years I've heard nothing but the demise of Japan and they get back up stronger each time." What planet are you living on? Japan has been in a consistent funk for the past two decades.

Even when Japan is doing well, it is often a lie. Companies giving false results, banks lying about debt etc. Japan's success story and its good times became the bubble years. A period of greed, corruption and lies.

"I have a feeling that they will surprise even the most critical thinkers "

People who have pointed to the deep-root dysfunction with Tepco and Japan's "Atomic Village" are not necessarily "critical thinkers." Just regular folk who aren't easily fooled.

Tepco is like an inbred monkey that can not think for itself so if we have one monkey trying to help another monkey, and one is blind and the other is deaf, where is the ostrich sticking its head in the sand?? We the majority of the people in Japan are like this poor ostrich, IMHO

When are they going to figure out what to do with the nuclear waste that remains deadly toxic for thousands of years?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

When they need to evacuate Tokyo based on this company's incompetence, I'll be one of the first on here to say "I told you so". It's not gloating, it's not pride, it's simply pointing out the company should have been replaced a long, long time ago with people that could do that job.

An awful lot of that water has been stored in the Pacific and not just in containers. Considering that TEPCO can't seem to do even simple things right, is it realistic to suppose that they will accomplish something which has never been tried without irradiating half the archipelago? This operation with the rods will be the further destruction of Japan, and the ABE government will continue to use its surrogate baby, TEPCO, as the scapegoat. TEPCO is a government "company," so no distinction can be made between the two--unless you are Japanese and couldn't give a s__t about what happens to your country.

To the writer:

Naomi Hirose

Who he is should be mentioned in the main text, I think.

Kent: Exactly, the new "secrecy act" would put the press in jail for reporting anything bad.

Ahhh! to be King. You then get to make grand, sweeping statements with no specifics. "Full speed ahead, damn the torpedoes. They can eat cake, what! what!! Put down that spear and speak English Man!"

I'm surprised in the fact that it's the first time they've met.

Yeah, and I recall once asking a snail to run more quickly. It still remained a snail, and still remained in my home a hell of a long time after entering. So, I just picked it up and took it outside and it was done. Wouldn't it be nice if someone could get rid of TEPCO and solve the problem like that?

It is so sad, for the people were happy in a beautiful place, for fathers that were,,,,,,,,,,

Is it just me, but are the regulator's comments lacking detail? They seem more akin to a school report form - far too general. Do the regulators actually have the information and/or technical ability to adiquately regulate?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

But it's all under control and Abe is fixing it at top priority.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

They should have taken drastic action one year ago!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

I know I am going to get lambasted for saying this but Japan's reputation abroad as well as the health and integrity of its country is at stake and I have a feeling that they will surprise even the most critical thinkers on this post and get this right. For years I've heard nothing but the demise of Japan and they get back up stronger each time.

So, they have been told to stop penny pinching and to get more engineers on site. Echo, echo, echo, echo, echo......

There are two problems with this, TEPCO doesn't have any money a qualified professionals are not gonna work for peanuts. The Japanese government has a long history of just throwing money at problems and hoping they go away, but they never follow up on their investments. This situation is exactly the same. They are giving TEPCO huge amounts of public money, but these mullets are spending it on duct tape and and untrained low salary workers and then, turning it into profits for their company. Wake up Abe! Fukushima is burning! Stop fiddling and take control!

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Meanwhile Japan continues to pollute the worlds oceans Ad nauseam with no apparent desire to stop doing so. Get it under control Mr Abe!

Good idea, or Abe might have difficulty selling Japan's nuclear "technology" to Turkey - another earthquake ridden country.

that no expense should be spared in getting to grips with the water leaks that have beset the plant over the last half-a-year.

Is this on top of the already billions of yen (tax-money) that has already been flushed?

Money isn't the problem, brains are, or lack of them that is....

The rod removal process is going to take their SNAFUs to a whole new level.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

After dodging every single call for action so far, THIS will be the one that make tepco jump to action!! (Sarcasm)

More trips to the ¥100 shop!
