Three members of the Tokyo Metropolitan Fire Department jumped off a bridge into the sea at Kasai Seaside Park after they got drunk at a barbecue on Wednesday afternoon.
One of the three, a 20-year-old man, was pulled from the water by emergency responders and died shortly after being taken to the hospital. Another man, 22, sustained only minor injuries to his right leg, while the third member of the group was uninjured, Sankei Shimbun reported.
According to police, the three men were having a barbecue with two other colleagues at around 5 p.m., and had been consuming large amounts of alcohol. The five were all off duty.
Polices are questioning the remaining members of the group to learn more about the events leading up to the accident.

Unfortunate, and there but for the grace of God went I and my compatriots during our crazy youth. Wonder whether it was that the bridge was too high of the water too shallow.

Sad way to go. R.I.P.

Just people being dumb. Not sure why their occupations are relevant, save that PERHAPS they ought to have known better.

Beer, BBQ, swimming pool and talking crap amongst friends, co-workers, favorite pastime. LoL, we just never did such stupid things like jumping off of bridges. Too much testosterone there.

Boy you sure like to pick a lot. Maybe because they were all fighters? Not a firefighter, a toilet cleaner, a host bar stud, an engineer, and a snobby Brit.

Sounds like a whim of youth, however, I'm awfully sorry about the 20-year-old man who has unfortunately paid the ultimate price. "Booze," yes, it can help you or hurt you.
May he rest in peace.

Nice to know the emergency services are employing high caliber staff. Like the ambulance driver the other day who forgot to put on the handbrake.

Because occupations are part of what forms our identity in society, and are part of the information set that provides context to readers of news reports. Age and gender (both of which also happen to be mentioned in this article) are the same. If none of that information was relevant or informative, then you're right, they should just report that "three humans jumped off a bridge".

Unfortunately in this story, alcohol was the blame for doing to something stupid, not an excuse.

Much more eloquent! That's why you have 3 thumbs up and I have 4 thumbs down. Damn I miss the working class!

Isn't diet soda tastier than booze?

Well, I guess that answers the rhetorical question my mom used to always ask. "If your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it too?"
