Long, long overdue !

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said there is “no precedent” for a same-sex couple being certified as foster parents.

There is now, and I for one am happy for them! I know a few gay couples who are going to be happy to hear about this!

After undergoing lectures, training and scrutiny by the center, as well as screening by the city’s social welfare panel, the couple was officially recognized on Dec. 22, 2016 as foster parents allowed to take charge of a child under 18.

Which is something that ALL couples or individuals, have to go through to be recognized as foster parent(s), and good for the city for allowing them to do it!

But as of March 1, 2015, of the 3,704 foster parent households nationwide, 3,216 households were those of married couples while the remaining 488 were single-parent households, government data shows.

A relatively small number considering the population and number of children that need homes.

So we are not "Worst No. 1" in everything then.

Great news! There should be more acceptance of gay/lesbian adoption. By and large, straight couples tend to have their own biological children. Some adopt, but many others don't. Opening up adoption for gay and lesbian couples means that ALOT more children will have a loving home as opposed to spending chrismas and new years in an orphanage.

Good stuff and very heartening news for orphans languishing in the state system!

Can they get the same family support as regular families ?

Strange world !!! Everyone deserves a regular family.

Will same-sex parents have the same issues with loss of custody at the time of child abduction? Will their child lose the right to both of their same-sex parents as a result of the selfish action of one of their parents?

Thumbs up first for the children and all concerned

Helping kids in any way, shape or form is a good thing and should be supported.
