Pasona Group Inc, a company providing personnel services, will hold a cultural event, World Summer Festival, on Friday at the company’s headquarters in Tokyo. The event was planned by the 13 foreign students participating in this year’s Pasona International Exchange Program, an internship conducted as Pasona Group’s corporate social responsibility activities.

Pasona said the event aims to deepen the understanding of different cultures as well as strengthening ties among those involved with the program.

Pasona Group has been conducting the Pasona International Exchange Program since 1988. This year marks the 25th anniversary, and approximately 370 students have participated in the program overall. This year, 13 students from the United States, mainland China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou), Hong Kong and Taiwan are working as interns at Japanese companies (Aderans, Sapporo Group Management, Tomy Company, Imperial Hotel, Tokyu Construction, NEC, Fuji Electric, Medical Associa, Pasona Group) in July and August.

This is nice of Pasona to do this for them, but I prefer that thousands of Japanese students go intern for other multinational companies. Granted foreign companies aren't always better (Libor fixing, etc.) but mingling with other nationalities and talent is significant. For future Japanese economic survival, looking outward is more important than ever.

Good luck to them. Hope they gain good experience.
