Let see what mainlanders have to say. Honest opinion please.
papigiulio
1 unit comes with a pricetag of 89 million dollar and Japan wants 40?? 3.5 billion dollar. I know where that money could be of better use sigh.
Yubaru
Huh? You make it sound like the folks around Yokota have no ears or something. That base has C-130's and they are not the quietest planes around either. The base has been there decades too, so I dont know where you get the idea that they will be getting "what's been dished out to the Okinawan's for decades" will be a change.
The Ospreys have been on Okinawa for a couple of years now, and guess what, no one is complaining anymore.
kyushubill
Can't the US keep its war machine in its own borders.
Robert Dykes
What?! "dangerous $40000 an hour machines?"
This is such a non issue. I can't believe some people are still whining about the Osprey. Do you all have ANY idea how many times these things have flown with out any problems. They have been around since 1988!!!!! Entered full time traning since 2000 and have been in full time active service since 2007. The have been deployed countless time in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Kuwait.
Seriously just look at the facts. There have only been 36 deaths caused by Osprey crashes over the course of its 25 year history in the entire world.

Ospreys are very safe nowadays, they even fly over major cities in the U.S. every now and then... If the U.S. is willing to put its own cities "at risk" of the osprey.. I'm sure Japan will be fine
YuriOtani
OssanAmerica I suspect the people of Japan will protest the SDF purchase of the osprey. Oh the people of Okinawa are not "anti-American" just anti-base.
danalawton1@yahoo.com
If anyone believes for one second that the USA told Japan it would have to accept these helicopters they're dead wrong. Japan only accepts what it wants in the first place.
Serrano
"The Pentagon said the Ospreys in Yokota will enable U.S. special forces troops to respond quickly to disasters and other crises in Japan and the broader Asia-Pacific region"
This is good, no?
"Can't the US keep its war machine in its own borders(?)"
"Exactly. It's a waning world power, and desperately trying to cling to its imperialist ambitions by continuing to meddle in other countries' affairs with its military. Specifically, it's insisting on having its slimy tentacles in the Asian region. It sure lives up to its reputation as a war-mongering nation."
Har!
danalawton1@yahoo.com
Had one of them fly over my house the other day.... it was flying pretty low and even before it got close by I could hear a whooping sound like none I've heard before.... it was kind of eerie... like some sort of prehistoric bird might sound. Maybe I'd been drinking though or something like that.
Illyas
We've been in the 'Asian region' since 1898 you ignoramus. World War II, Cold War, we've continued to have a massive presence. Learn some history before you make such ignorant statements. The 7th Fleet alone has been operating in the Asia-Pacific for 70 years. Sending Ospreys doesn't suddenly alter that. Learn some history before you make such ignorant statements.
Christopher Glen
Um, nope: http://www.alternet.org/rss/breaking_news/1041246/protests_as_us_osprey_aircraft_arrive_in_japan
Goodlucktoyou
Why not move the Okinawa bases as well as these dangerous $40000 an hour machines?
Christopher Glen
Perhaps not, but (with the exception of the Okinawans perhaps) they are extremely pro US
kwatt
Hope that Ospreys fly at low altitude above the Diet building and Abe's residence everyday for patrols. Of course they would love such nice noise pollutions which Okinawans are suffering everyday.
jpntdytmrow
Just more planes. Nothing new to people living in "the outskirts of Tokyo," like Ome, Hachioji, Tachikawa, Mitaka, Sagamihara, Kanagawa and Yamanashi. They fly other air craft regularly. This is just additional. Air base means air craft. Look up.
Christopher Glen
@kyushubill. That is a fair point
Ronald Hassem
Is Japan an American colony?
OssanAmerica
This is quickly becomminga non-issue as we approach the purchase and deployment of JSDF MV-22s. Or are the anti-US protesters going to be demonstrating at theJSDF bases as well?
nath
Are the Japanese buying the CV22 or the MV22 or will they get their own custom models?
Christopher Glen
Ooh, this isn't going to go down well - after all the trouble in Okinawa. Not a smart move on their part
genjuro
Exactly. It's a waning world power, and desperately trying to cling to its imperialist ambitions by continuing to meddle in other countries' affairs with its military. Specifically, it's insisting on having its slimy tentacles in the Asian region. It sure lives up to its reputation as a war-mongering nation.
Yubaru
Welcome to Japan new person. And by the way, they are quieter by far then what they are replacing.
Wc626
Let's see if Japan accepts them now.
Prob will. But darn, 17 ospreys? I can see 4-5. If japan was at least 1/4 the size of the US, 17 are still too many.
Christopher Glen
Here you may have something, Yuri. Having Ospreys on mainland Japan won't go down well - yet they will have a taste of what's been dished out to the Okinawans for decades at the same time
Zenpun
More CV22 means more hearing losses, accidents and pollution. Japan needs more missiles and less air crafts.
Missile can bring down ospreys. Osprey can not intercept missiles. Missiles do not need fuel as Ospreys. Missiles do not need pilots as Ospreys.
YuriOtani
The good news is the mainland Japanese will be able to share some of the burden with Okinawa. I predict a summer of demonstrations at Yokota. This may be the turning point.
