I'm not weary of the state of emergency. I'm weary of "we've tried asking nicely and now we're all out of ideas". Make some real decisions that will actually have claws and you might see some real effects. I'm weary of ineffective measures and expecting "gaman" to make it magically go away.

It's almost like people are looking around for a crisis but not seeing it. Better keep the propaganda campaign going. How else will people convince themselves to live inconstant fear?

If the Games go ahead, your misery will explode.

Corona danger value = ( (SUM(own and all nearby virus loads) + own age group coefficient + other health conditions coefficient) - local hygiene measures coefficient / surrounding space volume ) x exposure time

That’s only an intuitive little formula for quickly estimating in any situation. Feel free to discuss or recommend other / better parameters.

Well, that's because nobody is wearing their super effective and superior Abenomasks.

I saw a guy wearing one last week. He looked stupid because it was so small. (ie. It didn't cover enough of his face to hide his stupidity.)

Given that People here in Japan are wearing facemarks pretty much all the time in public, why are case numbers rising again? There's the crowding, sure, but shouldn't masks be basically solving that problem?

No, that’s not the claim. As stated before, it’s stunning that you’re still under this impression over a year into this.

What are you reading or watching?

Slightly off-topic but I love Tenjin. I met my wife there 30 years ago.

Stay home, stay safe. Safe and effective vaccines are here. I too am very frustrated with the slow rollout. Just a bit longer and we can go back to something like life before this scourge on humanity.

There's the crowding, sure, but shouldn't masks be basically solving that problem?

Erm, no. It's embarrassing that after over a year of this thing that you think that masks alone 'solve' a problem.

They don't seem to be.

Now you're getting it. May 2021, a penny finally drops.

Let's wait and see. They're only new.

Fall back and retrench to a new defensive position after your original one was overrun. Wise move.

I'm well ahead of you. Masks are only effective if changed every hour or so and people don't touch them while wearing them. And in any case, the mesh of most of the masks on the market is not fine enough to stop the droplets from passing through.

Are you seriously saying that the vaccines are proven to be safe and effective after such a short trial period?

https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/documents/covid-19-vaccine-safety-update/covid-19-vaccine-safety-update-vaxzevria-previously-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca-14-april-2021_en.pdf

The jury is still out. If people want to take part in these clinical trials, that's up to them. But I'm going to wait, and am in a low-risk group. If the pharma companies are so confident about the safety of their products, why do they need governments to protect them from public liability claims from harm done by their products. Isn't that what insurance is for?

Yeah, as if these measures are meant to get people to accept or beg for the vaccines.

You must be really annoyed about how safe and effective the vaccines are proving to be. You appeared to have staked quite a lot of your scientific cred on them not being so,

Let's wait and see. They're only new.

Anyhow, tell us more about these 'facemarks' ....

Given that People here in Japan are wearing facemarks pretty much all the time in public, why are case numbers rising again? There's the crowding, sure, but shouldn't masks be basically solving that problem?

They don't seem to be. Same overseas. With all those mask mandates the virus was still spreading fast, and when you compare results in like-for like places like California and Florida, where CA enforces masks by FL doesn't, case rates were similar.

If people eat better they'll be healthier and won't need to be nearly as afraid of the rona nor take those experimental jabs like they're told to. Can't have that.

All the government seems to be able to do is to tell people to stay at home.

Well, as businesses die and scale back what should the government be doing?

There has been no advice on how to keep natural immunity high.

How to eat better?

The necessity to moderate alcohol and tobacco consumption.

How to reduce toxins in the body through exercise and saunas.

The need for social contact and communication to aid emotional support for people alone.

The above might be obvious to some but not to all.

Especially not those governing!

"tough measures such as not serving alcohol"??

Lol. Complete non-sequitur

Do you still believe that ridiculous bleach thing twisted by the MSM?

Do I believe what? That the injection of bleach is an acceptable thing for an adult to even consider, or that an adult actually suggested it out loud in front of lots of TV cameras?

Well facemarks don't seem to be doing much to help.

And why would they? Are facemarks the new bleach for the hard of reading?

"Everyone is wearing face masks and yet more contagious coronavirus variants are on the rise. The state of emergency cannot be helped," said a 76-year-old man.

Actually, it can be helped...

Well facemarks don't seem to be doing much to help.

Im weary of these facile SoEs doing nothing at all except put restaurant staff out of work.

30 million people still commute into and out of Tokyo daily because their companies refuse to accept this is not business as usual.

The only difference is that 30 million people now commute home hungry.

Lock this sh!t down!

slow torture in a sense. give the people an end date to look forward to, then pull the rug from under their feet.

That seems to be the plan. The Japanese pulled off an economic miracle after WW2. Could they truly be this incompetent now? Perhaps. But Japanese governments have always treated the average Taro and Hanako with thinly disguised contempt, at least since the Edo period. That doesn't seem to have changed.

No wonder people are lost and not following the recommendations to curb infections.

No testing, no vaccine rollout plan in sight.

With all focus on Olympics and no “light in the end of the tunnel” for this virus situation in Japan, how can people have hope?

This is an endless situation in Japan. The best thing to do is clearly not test anyone, otherwise we’d be unveiling what would be one of the biggest scandals ever in this country.

It would simply be the end of LDP era.

The restrictions aren’t necessary. Open it up and let everyone get back to normal

People in places like the US were saying that a year ago. Look at what happened.

Its NOT all about you.

I’m tired too but I stay home to protect myself, my family and members of society that I’ve never met because I’m a responsible member of an inter-connected society and realize that rights go hand in hand with responsibilities.

We are still traveling and not weary at all. "There is no end in sight," said Motohiro Nagata, 65, who was heading to Toyama Prefecture, adding, "I can't plan ahead as the government changes the period (of the emergency) and details of the anti-virus measures so often." We could teach Nagata a thing or two. Planning ahead is easy with a computer and good travel agent.
