Pfizer vaccine effective against COVID-19 variants in Japan: study

Not if it isn't given to us.

Japanese DNA is completely unique when compared to dirty foreign DNA. Because of this, only a vaccine produced by Japanese people for Japanese people will be effect. Studies show that, under a microscope, Japanese DNA takes its shoes off when entering a house and is really good at using chopsticks.

Around 90 percent of those who received the vaccine developed by U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc were found to have antibodies against the various COVID-19 variants detected in Japan, a university study showed Wednesday.

Study? What people need is inoculation.

The vaccine developed by Pfizer and German partner BioNTech SE is currently the only one authorized for use in Japan.

I had my double dose of Moderna back in Jan. and Feb. The side effects consisted of a sore arm for a day or two and a craving for Corona Beer, which I found acceptable for an experimental vaccine that has been given to several million people. My wife had her shots with somewhat different reactions... she had the sore arm, but it may have come from the amount of typing she performed placing orders on amazon.jp.

There's been so many waves, you'd think Suga was at a surfing contest.

The sample size is too small. Rollout and collect more data.

I have no fear about taking vaccine.

Moderna plans to build manufacturing facilities in Korea

U.S. biotechnology firm Moderna has chosen Korea as its base to produce COVID-19 vaccines for Asian countries, according to multiple government sources, Wednesday.

Such study really doesn't matter, but so many people have troubles to make reservations now by phone. All lines are too busy, so they can't make reservations of vaccine day and time. Most elderly people can't use PCs and don't have one home.

My wife in Japan has been fully vaccinated (still alive) and I’ve had one injection of AZ.

In June I will have the second one.

Accord to NHK 40% of European vaccine exports go to Japan. That's 74 MILLION doses from Europe already. I think they'll be fine.

Even is the results of the study is positive, it is to reassure people at that time with the vaccine.

Only 105 in the study and over 90 to 95% have antibodies. Good result but not enough people.

To be convinced, all should now be voluntary exposed to the virus and see if they are really protected.

Vaccines are why humans life 2x longer today than in 1900. Fear of vaccines has been around just as long. It wasn't until someone high in British society brought back the idea from living outside Europe that purposefully infected her son with a mild smallpox, which he recovered from, that other high-society people started doing the same. That technique spread among the wealthy, to protect against smallpox.

It was also noticed that milkmaids never got smallpox, but they all caught cowpox and recovered from it. Turns out that cowpox and smallpox are related enough that our immune systems can destroy smallpox after successfully fighting the never-fatal cowpox. Soon, rather than infecting people with a small amount smallpox (2% death rate), they started using cowpox instead.

Thanks to our understanding of DNA, we now can create vaccines to gum up the workings of COVID with the mRNA vaccines. The vaccines aren't so specific as to only work for 1 strain, but they aren't so general as to be a risk for "good things" in our bodies either. That is the balancing act that Pfizer and Moderna successfully walked.

The other vaccines - J&J, AZ, SinoVac, SputnikV each work in the old way that isn't nearly as targeted.

Also, if you play the numbers game, start looking at the percentage of population who are dying of Covid or who are infected, rather than the absolute numbers.

105 people eh. So they studied everyone who has had the vaccine so far in Japan. :-p

Moerna is already on the country and will be approved next week.

Long-term though, that could be another story.

I saw this on the news last night. Even one dose proves to be effective in producing antibodies in 57% of the cases. Less effective for the mutations though.

What's important is that after the 2nd shot all strains were covered with antibodies for more than 90% of the vaccinated! The sample number is low because they tested the university hospital staff if I'm not wrong.

Bs, you can know all that only after the vaccinations have been completed, not beforehand, based on whispers or data snippets from other countries.

Late vaccinations may well be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps s long term side effects will start showing soon in the mass vaccination countries that run on hysteria.

Obviously side effects may be minimal but better safe than sorry

@Michael Machida: Another pointless provocative comment from you. You know exactly why as you have been involved in many discussions on this very website. You also know that both Moderna and AZ will be approved next week.

To be clear , I am in no way defending the appalling rollout of the vaccine by Japan.

Numbers elsewhere clearly show it works, both in keeping people out of hospital and the more data we have, also preventing transmission.

The booster shot coming out this fall/winter will be able to handle it.

The COVID is surprisingly stable relative to Influenza virus and already all possible mutations are appearing across the globe. The only mutation that would affect vaccine effectiveness is the E484K/Q mutation in the spike protein, and fall booster shots cover this mutation.

Shame w don’t know possible long term side effects of the vaccine, disaster waiting to happen possibly.
