Awarded damages were way too low. Some of these folks had to abandon their homes and relocate losing jobs, property, farmland, etc.

Now that fault is admitted and acknowledged hopefully they can move forward with a realistic settlement.

Also on Monday, the central government and TEPCO filed an appeal to the same Sendai High Court arguing they should not be held liable for damages.

Should not be held liable for damages? Seriously? TEPCO has openly admitted the meltdowns were the result of a failure to implement safety upgrades and falsifying records to state they had been done. And, while the central government may not have been aware of the fraud, it was their responsibility to ensure the plant was safe and the upgrades had been done. Not liable? Bwahahahaha!

@disillusioned. "Falsifying records" is not a crime in Japan. It is a norm and keeps the upper class rich. You should apologize to Abe for your insults to Japan.

200,000 JPY is still nothing, US$ may make a bit more sense in order to cover the cost of temporary housing, relocation, etc.

So who the hell should be held liable?
