Police officer commits suicide with pistol in station toilet

A 29-year-old male police officer shot himself in a restroom at the Denenchofu police station in Tokyo's Ota Ward, police said Tuesday.

At around 9 p.m. Monday, a community department officer was found bleeding from a bullet wound to his head in a 5th floor restroom, Fuji TV reported. He was taken to hospital where he died Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police believe that he shot himself as his pistol was found beside his body.

What causes this? Stress, depression, anxiety, etc. Some of the posters here seem to be unaware of what a thankless task policing is. Invariably, you only come into contact with people when they are distressed, their is a climate of extreme machismo ("toughen it out") and depending on your job (say serious crime), on a daily basis you come into contact with the sort of scenes that would turn your average human being into hysteria. Thus, incidents like this happen.

That's it. Ban cops from having guns.

I need to add clamenza that the article was updated between your posting and mine. I sure wish JT would leave a link to the original articles and a notice of updates.

In the first article, the cop was listed in critical condition and his suicide as attempted. In this update, he is listed as deceased and dead by suicide.

You think?

Seriously? You missed that?

@clamenza Thanks! Yeah, somehow I missed that. My bad.

and If you had spent any time in this country in the last few years, you'd know that this exact type of incident has happened a handful of times over the last 5 years at least.

I don't trust vague memories. Its not like I have been paying full attention to alleged police suicides. So I did a net search and only the Ehime incident came up as a truly similar incident.

A chain really needs more than two links. And even if you named five more it still would not rule out an accident in this case.

What a sad way to go for such a young guy. It makes me wonder if he had a history of mental problems or if it was the stress of his job / life. Not many details to go on here. In any event my condolences to his family and friends.

Where does it say there is a gunshot wound to the head?

Wc626 at Oct. 07, 2015 - 12:36AM JST Ball rounds sometimes won't seal the deal. High-velocity hallow tip rounds seal the deal. This guy didn't do it right. He should've inserted the muzzle into his mouth with a 45* upward angle, then pulled. Jeez, not even cops (who should know their weapons) have common sense.

That ment to be cool? Who writes this!? A man tried suicide and you go on about the correct method of suicide?

Now the question is what will be the future if he survives? Hopefully won't be any side effects in his health...

@clamenza

With a gunshot wound to the head.

So glad to know you are not jumping to conclusions! :)

Where does it say there is a gunshot wound to the head?

Alone and in a bathroom. With a gunshot wound to the head. With a history of fellow policemen doing the same.

Well there was the 21 year old in Ehime. That makes one policeMAN. Who else, so we can make it "men"?

"A 29-year-old male police officer shot himself in a restroom..."

@Aly Rustom - "I remember another police officer killed himself in otakanomori station in Chiba with a gun"

I wonder what happens in the men's toilets of a police station that makes a grown man want to kill himself???

I would not jump to conclusions. He may well have been fooling around or something. It could have been an accident,

Peace Out - no one is jumping to conclusions. They are using the very least amount of brainpower needed in concluding the guy attempted suicide.

Common sense, my friend.

I'm not saying that all J-Police are incompetent but... :-(

Yeah. Some folks just can't do anything right.

Just a guess but guess bulling will come up in any follow up pieces.

those are the people who can make a global peace , so sad , another one killed , RIP

I would not jump to conclusions. He may well have been fooling around or something. It could have been an accident, although I doubt it could have been one we could label as "understandable".

I remember another police officer killed himself in otakanomori station in Chiba with a gun as well in 2012. What would cause him to despair like this? My guess would be bulling from someone higher up.
