The government plans to provide the funds for power companies to award points to households participating in the power-saving efforts.

now there's a surprise....

Is this the best that they can come up with?

Meanwhile Kishida and myriad fax pressersc will run around the world with two jet liners for one day conferences.

Pathetic!

Points - like I can get some useless stuff for them?

Or can I exchange those points to reduce my electricity bill?

If so, it would help, if not ... put those points where the moon don't shine!

Hard to believe this is the most efficient way they found to use the money in order to correct the energy cost problem.

LDP provides billions of yen to the execs of utilities.

For consumers: Congratulations! You saved thousands of yen in power by a reduction of lifestyle and austerity.

Here is your 2000 yen Quo Card redeemable at an Ito Yokado in your area (if there is one).

Of course, it's good to save power. However, as possibly a taster for what may come this summer, Nagano City just had its second hottest June day in 150 years' of records yesterday. It hit 35.4C. In that situation you do not want people being stingy with aircon and fans. You want them to protect their health.

A few months ago, the government finally passed a bill to raise the insulation standard of newbuild houses to the "2016" standard. It took years of campaigning for them to do this.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Do you still get your Y2,000 if you die from heat stroke after not running the A/C in 38 C heat?

14 ( +20 / -6 )

That's 2000yen per month, right?

Of course not.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

Another waste!

Just give families a tax free break on their electrical bills.

Why make things so complicated?

18 ( +18 / -0 )

The Japanese Government has billions in cash to throw to other countries in the form of donations and have the nerve to give each Japanese family only 2,000¥ ( that also with so many criteria )! Heck, even a refugee from Ukraine gets more money than ¥2000 on a daily basis! Time for the Japanese people to seriously raise up these issues during the election campaigns during the Q&A’s with the candidate’s!

12 ( +15 / -3 )

This is a joke right??? It's got to be!!! It is too stupid to be serious!!!

13 ( +15 / -2 )

It isn't about helping out families it is about providing Tepco with a cash injection but in such a way that it doesn't need to be officially called a cash injection and LDP can say oh it is for the people.

Sorry all questions that are permitted to be asked are provided or pre approved.

This is forward thinking on par with the Abe mask… slow clap

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Oh wow a whole 20 bucks?? Yeah, that's such a great incentive...not. I wonder how J-gov comes to such absurd decisions - do they just stick a bunch of ideas on the wall and throw a pin haphazardly hoping it lands on something good? Tsk...

5 ( +8 / -3 )

another giving away taxpayers money to "gov-friendly companies",just another behind-the-curtain-business,nothing else.

wondering who can still vote for this bunch of unskilled and useless crooks?

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Yeah, and let’s all buy an electric car.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

On a 20 to 24.000 yen monthly electricity bil, a 2000 yen gift voucher/card is not gonna cut it

5 ( +7 / -2 )

So the money is going to the power companies, who are then responsible for its distribution. Lol. Seriously?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Why do they not cut Tokyo billboard

4 ( +4 / -0 )

So face recognition, CCTV, my number, recorded digital currency, and now, spying on how much electricity individuals use. Next will be water and Internet.

I also seem to recall, just weeks before ex-PM Aso had an election, he gave a present of ¥10000 to everybody to stimulate buying of rice cookers. Surveys reported it was spent on yakiniku.

is there an election coming?

Japan's only solution to the energy crisis is persistently begging Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia to export their oils/gas at cheaper prices.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_oil_production

In exchange, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thailand, and Malaysian elites, as well as citizens, are allowed to own Japanese assets permanently without any political, or legal restriction (like citizenship). Southeast Asians should be fast-tracked towards becoming permanent residents in Japan easily. The safety of these people should be ensured against future Japanese ultranationalists who will go rampaging after finding out all jobs are taken by Asian foreigners.

If Japan does all of these, then these countries may consider it. Of course, this has been what Abe, Suga, and Kishida have been doing but with a heavy focus on Vietnam who is the most sympathetic to Japan. Other ASEAN countries face their domestic crises, so they don't have oils/gas to spare.

Russia is a short boat away and selling very cheap. We even have pipelines.

my personal view is every house legally must have solar panels. Only problem is that the best quality cheapest ones come from China, a country Kishida is confronting with threats of military action.

The Japanese government said Friday it will provide power-saving points worth 2,000 yen to households if they take part in a power-saving program.

That's a joke. How about paying for resident's utility bills for the next few months, for openers. 2,000 yen? Good luck with that one.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Gee, thanks for the $14.79.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

How many voters can you even bribe with a measly ¥2,000? Seems more like a reason to note vote for someone. That the gov't seriously thinks that ¥2,000 will have an impact on households is further proof just how disconnected and pathetic the gov't is. A 10 yrs old could understand just how useless this is. These are supposedly grown men.. It's an insult to people and a complete waste of taxpayers money.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Hey if the LDP will cover the cost of a dozen natto packs from Aeon, they got my vote….and what is the sound of sheep?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

here we go again the Government playing their people like fools

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

As if the ridiculously low amount of Y2000 isn't bad enough, they're not even giving it directly to constituents, either as cash or direct credit/rebate on their bills. Instead, it's going to power companies to fund some goofy point program. If ever TIJ applied to something, it's this.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Russia is a short boat away and selling very cheap. We even have pipelines.

The angry US won't allow that to happen but Americans are very accepting if Japan chooses oil/gas from ASEAN, especially from Vietnam. Because the US is grooming Vietnam to economically replace Japan at the USD recycling trade.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

So.... Kishida is going to give money to the power companies to do this and... it'll trickle down later? Like Abe's third arrow? And lest we forget, power companies just recently jacked up costs, so no one is saving anything to begin with.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

This could be a real life-saver. Not.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

How about people toughen up ?

You don’t need your air conditioner on 24/7.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

tooheysnew: "How about people toughen up ?"

An area of Japan hit 40.1°C (104°F) just north of Tokyo today, an all-time high for the month of June in recorded history. Many, many people will die, especially the elderly, if they took your simplistic solution, which is... suffice it to say, unrealistic.

Irregardless, it doesn't change the fact that there are better ways to do this than having Kishida promise more payouts to companies who will only then gouge customers more.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

It’ll work there’re millions of tight wads here that’ll line up for 10¥ saving. I’m leaving next week anyway, enjoy your summer!

Point systems for power savings has always been a scam. Especially when the grid is about to be overloaded or the cost of fuel has gone up. Are you asking poor people to from sweltering heat? Every kilowatt-hour saved just means suffering for those that are only trying to stay cool and keep their food from spoiling. Solar will only help them if you provide them the equipment and support. In California they are already screwing over all the homeowners who are selling power back to the grid. They aren't even the only ones allowing the providers to do whatever they want.

Turning off all electronic and electrical advertising would be a great start. Then creating small forests on every street, thoroughfare and highway to make all of those channels of hard surfaces a greenery. Life would be better and more likely livable...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Simply pathetic!
