What I want to know is why science can land humans on the moon and vehicles on Mars and send them ( Voyager ) right out of the solar system, but they can't stop or change the directions of typhoons...

I'm located in Miyazaki City... It has started now, it's pretty rough outside. just sit it out and wait for tomorrow's sunshine...

Heading straight for Tokyo this time. Looks like the city will be get a good blasting and flushing. Tuesday will be nice... fresh air!

I'm going to go for a walk in the middle of it... love nature when it's flexing its muscles.

Watch out for the flying cows... in case of Tokyo, umbrellas.

Got wet going to work today, got wet coming home ... and will get more than wet tonight when I go to my local public bathhouse for a nice hot relaxing bath ...

The company called and they asked us if we're going to work tomorrow or take a paid leave. The school will be closed so I thought it would be considered a holiday because of the strong typhoon. What's the policy of your companies regarding this?

My classes are already cancelled and usually that call is not made until 5 a.m. the day of class. Appears the track is heading directly at us. Everyone, please stay safe in your home. I love living close to a wooded area. Just hope the bamboo trees remain as strong as they are suppose to be. Do not need one flying into our window. It should blow away by noon bringing very warm temperatures. CNN is talking about our area now!! 76 KPH winds around 9:00 a.m.

This is how I know I'm turning Japanese: I got the overwhelming urge to run out and buy toilet paper.

I just keep thinking of all of theses 100 yen umbrellas that will be in the trash bins tomorrow

It's better to be safe than sorry.

Glad I've stocked up on necessities and no work tomorrow! A hot bath, a movie and a good book will be all I need! Take care those that have to go out tomorrow!

farmboy, thanks for that link. This storm reminds of 2002 #7 in its course and strength.

Stay tuned to local radio and TV stations for important weather updates.

I am praying for those 3 servicemen in Okinawa. One body is found and 2 are still missing.

Omicron,

Your company clearly SUCKS! Clearly they don't give a rats about their employees they have NO CLASS!

GW,

I know, I sounds crazy when they told me this. What should be the common practice in Japan in case of these strong typhoons? I thought it should be a holiday and not a day off because there are no trains (at least in my area)

What are the policies in your companies here?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The standard is to give staff time off. Your company sounds like a bunch of cheapskates.

At both the companies I worked in in Japan, we got the time off on typhoon days. I told my staff to plan to come to work at 2:00 pm today, but that I would review this at 12:30 and contact them then.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna ask them again about this tomorrow. I don't really understand the logic of using paid leave on a typhoon day with no trains.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tell them you tried to go to work, but there were no trains, so you won't be using any yuukyuu (paid leave). Don't give them the option.

It isn't so bad in Tokyo right now, rainy, but the wind isnt particularly high.

just try to imagine the amount of energy required to sustain such an idea. were talking exponential megatons of cooling. we could launch milllions of satellites with this amount energy.

1.3 x 10^17 Joules/day, to 5.2 x 10^19 Joules/day based on an average event, and the method of calculation "This is equivalent to 200 times the world-wide electrical generating capacity - an incredible amount of energy produced" source: NOAA

pretty sure he was being sarcastic LOL!

The skies may have cleared, but there's still the residual risk of further landslides and flooding in areas near or between rivers like Hiratsuka, Chigasaki
