Prestigious sushi restaurant Kyubey is suing the historic Hotel Okura after learning that its location will be moved from the main area to a separate building after the grand reopening in September 2019.
Kyubey is seeking 10 million yen in compensation, according to the suit filed at the Tokyo District Court, Fuji TV reported. The first oral proceedings between the plaintiff, Kyubey, and the defendant, Hotel Okura, were held on Nov 12.
According to the lawsuit, Kyubey opened at its coveted location—nestled beside the high-end Japanese restaurant Yamazato—in 1964. However, with the redesign of the hotel, the floor plan revealed that the sushi restaurant will be assigned to a separate building as opposed to the main area, where Yamazato will resume operations.
Officials from Kyubey said the relocation to the corner of an arcade is far from suitable and will affect its status as a prestigious restaurant. The Hotel Okura said it cannot comment while the case is being disputed in court.

I have a feeling that there is a hell of a lot more to this story than being reported here, will have to check out the Japanese news!

I've had sushi at Kyubey in Ginza and it wasn't anything to write home about. As for Yamazato, never tried it but at those prices I won't be checking it out unless the company pays.

There is probably less. 10 million yen is a lot for me, but it's peanuts for the businesses involved. My feeling is they are doing that little drama in public to get free attention from the media. That worked. No they will announce a happy end.
