I wish them all happiness, and life away from the media glare.

Good for them. It's 2018, royalty are the thing of the past.

Yes. But Ayako has the better deal, don't you think?

Is this the Japanese equivalent of UK's Princess Eugenie's wedding? ie nobody cares. Hell, Prince Andrew is trying to get a TV deal for his daughter's wedding. And they're trying to invite stars. Like I said, nobody cares.

Strictly speaking, neither Kate, Meghan, nor Diana are/were princesses actually. That would be for daughters or grand-daughters of monarchs.

So let me see if I got this right...

A prince marries a commoner and the bride becomes a princess... but a princess marries a commoner and she loses her status?

Talk about the ultimate double standard.  (If I got this right of course.)

Spidey

Not quite. There can be cases where a commoner groom can become a prince (and eventually an emperor). That can happen if the groom comes from a family of particular traditional clans, or 華族(”kazaku”) , similar to British peerage. For this to happen, Japan has to restore the Kazoku system, abolished by GHQ in 1947.

I'll be celebrating my 26th on that same date. Time really flies but still marriage is HARD WORK! Best wishes to them and to all.

So Kei Moriya passed the Imperial Household Agency due diligence, and is able to offer Princess Ayako a good future. Princess Mako's fiance is still working on his financial issues, or rather his mother's.

They seem to be a nice normal young couple despite the Imperial connection. Can't see her becoming a nukamiso kusai housewife though.
