Only in Japan is there an announcement for an announcement.

Isnt this like the fourth time it has been announced that this will be announced? Are they just postponing the announcement to make new announcements for the announcement or what?

Must be nice, being able to become a prince in our era

He doesn't come a prince, she becomes a common-or-garden Mrs/Ms, which is even nicer.

Thank the gods, I'm forewarned of this other wise I'd be so shocked. A princess getting married whoop who would have thought Thanks again for the pre announced news.

Why does the IHA (the agency) fuss about and over-complicate most things... Such a big deal over something 99.99% don't care about.

Except he won't become a Prince, she will be reduced to the state of commoner. Ie. No more Princess Mako just like her older Sister.

The actual announcement is going to be somewhat anticlimactic.

Not as thrilling as the Bond and Doctor Who announcements but good luck to them, all the same.

though 'Japan' DOES like to announce an announcement, it doesn't hold a monopoly…. have noticed a growing trend for 'future-news': "Theresa May will announce Tuesday blah blah"; "Apple will make an announcement next week on their new blah blah"...

Let's hope the weather's fine/NK doesn't nuke us/no idol announces their pregnancy etc around 3 Sept otherwise they'll end up getting married before the official announcement. Fingers crossed!

What does the emperor care? When she marries, she'll be kicked out of the family and will be asked for the house keys. When or if her brother ascends to the throne, it'll be a very very lonely place - no siblings or even cousins.

With so many announcements of announcements, the anticipation has disappeared. Will we have to feign shock or surprise on Sept 3?

This is getting silly now. And boring.

An announcement of an announcement, oh Japan when will you make thing simpler?

What does the emperor care

Family is still family. Plenty of parents or grandparents care about who their child or grandchild marries.

I wish them nothing but the best.  A beautiful couple.

Personally I of the opinion Princess Mako, should if willing retain her royal status, and continue to carry out royal duties. Princess Mako is a asset to Japan culture and traditions.

I am sure, convinced, Kei Komuro is a charming noble affable guy. So maybe one should not  dwell to long on the above image, Is that a smile or a smirk?  The grin that proves patience is a virtue?

All the best to the lucky couple.

Apparently a lot of people here come from some utopias where it isn't customary to announce upcoming (non-emergency) official press conferences. I'd be interested in knowing how the media magically know to send reporters and photographers, and thd public magically knows when to tune in.

Stop being disingenuous. We know they are engaged, so making announcements about a forthcoming official announcement is a bit redundant.

On the morning of Sept. 3, the emperor is expected to carry out a procedure to approve their marriage.

I heard from a friend who is up on royal family gossip that the emperor doesn't really care for the marriage of the 2. According to her, Komuro comes from a single mother home. His father committed suicide when he was younger and he was mostly supported by the grandparents. I am not sure what he disapproves whether it his family situation or his economic situation.
