Readers, how about some sensible suggestions please?

If 10,000 people choose A, and 12,000 suggest B and 15,000 suggest C, then will simple democracy kick in? Or will there be deeper-thinking artistic judges on the board? Will they narrow it down to five candidates and then take a vote, as they did with the Olympic emblems?

Watch this space!

The locals have been campaigning for the name to be Takanawa for couple of years already. There are posters up in shops etc.

Regardless of the public's suggestions, two things are certain.

First, the station name will absolutely reference a neighborhood. ALL other stations on the Yamanote line do so. And there is no chance the suits will change that

Second, the station name will have to be unique. It will NOT be the exact same name as any other station.

So, regardless of the suggestions, we will end up with something like:

Shin-Sengakuji

Or:

Higashi Takanawa

Or:

Minami Tamachi

Or something like that.

Just saying.

Probably going to end up with something related to the Olympics.....

Mori Station

Olympic Station

Abe Station

Aso Station

There is already a Kita-Shinagawa on the Keikyu line. However as the JR line is east of and very close to Sengakuji subway line, and will almost certainly be connected by passageways, Sengakuji or Higashi-Sengakuji would appear to be logical.

Kita-Shinagawa. Boring, but probably the most practical choice.

This station already exists. Weirdly though, it is south of Shinagawa Station.

Kita-Shinagawa. Boring, but probably the most practical choice.

This could indeed be an option. Or maybe even more logical they will name it Higashi-Sengakuji

Given the amount of "design borrowing" we've seen so far 品ぱっくり駅 seems about right.

Or, since the area's an ugly concrete mess 緑が丘駅.

Take a hint from Kunitachi -- created by combining Kokubunji and Tachikawa -- and name it Shinatama.

It will be something boring and predictable like Olympic Station or Sakura Station.

If you ask for public opinion be prepared for the unexpected, people unlike government entity's have a sence of humour. Appreciate the quirks, and humour that is lacking in their lives. It would be cool to give the station an out of the box title everyone would remember.

Considering what historically this area was I think an honest name would be ごみ捨て場

Moderator: Not a sensible suggestion, as requested.

It'll be something like Heisei, to commemorate the abdication of the emperor.

Let’s see first what the new emperor’s name will be.

Shibaura, Takanawa, or Higashi Sengakuji

Speed, 'Shintama' also suggests 'fresh onions'!

Would have been better to provide the official location for posting name suggestions to.

Article has a link :

But, this could have been setup by anyone, as qooker is an online questionaire service. Where is the original JR owned advisory note, containing this link ?

平和 Heiwa Station is in line with the games. The dream Olympic Sport will lead to world peace.

Without public input they’d probably name it after the neighborhood it is in, just to make it clear to riders where they are. Or something like Shin-Shinagawa or Shin-Tamachi (although Shin is usually reserved for shinkansen stops). Or Shinagatama.

I would like to suggest something like Ebi or Liquid (液) or something related to the Olympics and two popular movie franchises (Tolkien and a Japanese horror movie):

The Ring
