M6.9 quake hits off islands south of Tokyo

This is the LAST thing this country needs at a time like this! I hope everyone is safe and I also hope that there are no other aftershocks either!

Felt it here in Tokyo!

Yeah, man... I worry about it very often, thinking, "This would be the time, wouldn't it?" If there were any major disaster here, or anywhere else for that matter, and they had to deal with evacuees and trying to take care for them to avoid the virus, not to mention the financial toll and toll on health care workers... Well, needless to say the effects would be exponentially worse.

It woke me up here in Kansai- that was a strong one!

Terrible timing... but that is nature and life. Fortunate that it did not impact any of the surrounding countries.

There is one, actually two related concerns...

There has to be a worldwide statistics on all earthquakes big and small to determine a trending of some sort combined with volcanic activities to see the correlation. The tectonic movement may be definitely showing signs from the quakes and eruptions of some changes that can help determine the possible release tension that will hit Japan and California in quakes and volcanic action.

There has been few if any research to visit the quake location under the oceas to actually see and map any changes that may help in diagnosing the tectonic action.

The hope is for us to be able to predict such disasters in much more reasonable time frame to protect ourselves. It is the unpredictability that is so stressing.

I am still reluctant to ride in a Tokyo subway.
