"Radioactive water from Fukushima plant may have reached sea."

You don't say!!! I am so (NOT) surprised!!!

"pumping the remaining water from the leaky tank." Where?? Into another leaky tank??

"He said there were no significant changes in radiation levels outside the plant." Because it is a radioactive hell already!!!

There is no time to lose?? Well there was no time to lose 2 and a half years ago!!!

The heart-breaking news from Fukushima just keeps getting worse…a LOT worse…it is, quite simply, an out-of-control flow of death and destruction. TEPCO is finally admitting that radiation has been leaking to the Pacific Ocean all along. and it’s NOT over…. I find myself moving between the emotions of sorrow and anger. It now appears that anywhere from 300 to possibly over 450 tons of contaminated water that contains radioactive iodone, cesium, and strontium-89 and 90, is flooding into the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima Daichi site everyday.

Is there any way to neutralize radioactive materials? If not, it is too early human beings utilize nuclear power.

Any one seeing a pattern?

Step one: make small announcement.. puddles or we have lost power etc.

Step two: upgrade the announcement.. There has been some kind of leak or we still have no power but don't worry.

Step Three: Make an announcement that actually resembles the truth...The leak has made it to the ocean or the power outage has started a meltdown.. whoops.. we will investigate...

Step Four: We are very very sorry and we will ensure this kind of accident doesn't happen again..

Step Five: Run around trying to patch up the long predicted problem like its some kind of surprise.

Step Six: Repeat, at least once a month forever....

when the radioactivity enters the Pacific food chain, can the world demand reparations from Japan?

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Rinse and repeat.

Whenever I watch TEPCO's press conferences I always feel an attitude of indifference.

Tuna swimming off the west coast of the US have been found with elevated levels of cesium in their bodies. 300 tonnes of corium are metres below ground in Fukushima on the sea coast.

Repairs are carried out with duct tape at the plant-there is a high chance that radioactive water has flowed into the sea.........

More than two years of unrelenting horror for the front-line workers.

No eat fish for a while :)

2 ( +4 / -2 )

May have reached? Isn't that a bit of an understatement.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Incident in Accident... I always enjoy how they passing these problems to NISA, NRA, and IAEA. And what they do? Tell you the level, and that Nuclear power is safe. Funny as hell. You will get what you vote for.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

And they have over a million tons in "temporary" storage tanks. One big jolt and we could be in real trouble.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

It may have reached the ocean? Is it that the radiation levels are so high they don't know where it's going? I can't understand why they are nor utilizing every group in the world to sort this mess out. If its money they could save millions by cutting the whaling program for a start.

Holy shit! Flying contaminated water! It's alive!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Always so worried about ourselves. Think of what this is to the fish, dolphins and whales and other marine life whose homes were just trashed.

Reached the sea really? http://www.zerohedge.com/news/remember-fukushima-presenting-radioactive-seawater-impact-map

About the only help that the IAEA will provide is offering to provide guidelines for the disposal of radioactive liquids in a couple of years time, after a few large conferences around the world, once they have reached consensus amongst all its members, and providing it does not interfere with the regular operation of nuclear power plants...

@Farmboy funny post but I think he or she is referring to the tiny little separate issue of contaminated groundwater flowing into the pacific over the containment wall at a rate of over 300 tonnes per day.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If they are saying it MAY have reached the sea, then it already has.

"The company was also “hurriedly checking” if any of 350 similar tanks at the plant were also leaking."

Glad they've been checking them regularly up to now!

The radiation leakage from Fukushima will not only affect Japan, but will include the United States. I never go to sushi bars or for that matter, eat fish anymore. In addition, if radiation is further released into the atmosphere, the radioactive particles will cover the entire west coast of the United States and affect the vegetables, dairy, and beef forever. People forget about the effects of Chernobyl, currently about 50% of all European deaths are attributable to cancer (normal mortality rates for cancer in a population is about 33%). This could be the affects, after 35 years, of radiation on a population. Pouring cement on Fukushima will not be a good idea, as they did in Chernobyl due to the fact that if cement were to cover the Fukushima nuclear plant, then the rods within the reactors would heat up and melt into the water table which is near the Earth's surface and that would flow into the Pacific Ocean which is only 500 yards from Fukushima; note that Chernobyl in Russia was thousands of miles from any ocean. Hopefully this is not NUCLEAR CHECKMATE

IAEA is a bunch of old boys who go drinking together and didn't show up to the Fukushima disaster for months after it happened.

The half life of the radio active elements in question is in the hundreds to thousands of years. This is only the beginning. What's making the situation worse is TEPCO's old boys covering up the disaster stink with a perfume of optimistic press releases and on the other side of the pond foundless anti-scientific diatribes are being pumped out onto the blogosphere about the effects incorrectly. It's horrible.

Is Fukushima a way for old Japanese to get revenge on the USA etc..for Nagasaki and Hiroshima?? Anyway, not too happy with the stupid mess Tokyo Electric is being allowed to do with their "handling" of the nuclear power plants up in Fukushima, just a few hundred kilometers from us here in TOKYO, with about 30 million residents in the Tokyo Metro area, hmmmm.....how to not cause a major panic and no way to relocate 30 million of us!??

Out of control lies and corruption the poisoning of Japan the whole thing is vile.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

It has already been reported it has entered the sea, why are tepco slowly now just saying so

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Whenever I watch TEPCO's press conferences I always feel an attitude of indifference.

Maybe that's the goal. Congratulations! You are now officially Japanese.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Well everyone already said it . 40 years of worry about the nuclear industry has been justified . Endgame poisoned earth .

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Here's an updated photo of the Pacific pollution. http://jscotthusted.wordpress.com/2013/07/16/pray-fukushima-radiation-still-a-growing-threat-two-years-after-july-2013/

What's with the 'may'? Of course it has reached the ocean. Water runs downhill. This is just another apathetic report to soften the facts. When are they gonna finally admit they are not in control of this catastrophe? This is why they won't let international agencies in to assist. If they do they cannot cover up the truth of their incompetence.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

More rubber bands and duct tape needed. Turds.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Might have??? What a joke. Contaminated water has been flowing into the sea since the incident except that it was never reported and had to reach such a state of emergency that the truth finally comes out. So, Abe is still insistent with opening the taps on the other nuclear plants? All it takes is another earthquake and Abe's houses will all fall down much as he tries to appear calm and still smirking.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

"May have"?!?!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

"may have" usually can be translated to "has about a week ago" with any tepco article. I like the article about a month ago where it said "Tepco ask permission from government to dump toxic water" Oh thanks, yeah because uhhh... we already have...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Do not worry, business has the solution. Prepare for higher prices.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No maybe. The ocean is radioactive been that way since the tsunami, so why lie about it be honest people understand honesty.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

TEPCO follow the old maxim that it is easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Ooh man~! And I just love seafood so much but I really don't know if it's safe to eat anymore. I would really like to know - does all seafood on the market in Japan get tested for radiation these days? Anyone know?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In Vienna, IAEA spokeswoman Gill Tudor said the agency “views this matter seriously and remains ready to provide assistance on request”.

Which begs the question...why on earth has there been no request?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Please start buying canned vegetables now and tuna in cans now , you will not be able to eat next years crop if it is even planted, good luck humans,,,,,p.s. you will see how much steam is flowing from the place as the winter temps arrive,,,,

This brings back memory of a scene in Kurosawa's Dream........

0 ( +0 / -0 )

i think the Japanese government is using more money giving out more brown envelop to silence the international media that what they are really using to help and control the situation in tohoku

0 ( +1 / -1 )

At this point, Japan won't really listen to the international community until some contries start using some underhanded tricks like tariffs on machinery, import bans, radiation checks on people returning to the country.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Information from the company trickles out the same way the radioactive stuff does - slowly. A little bit more each day...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

you should never give heed to effects of radiation as portrayed in the media. You should also never underestimate what the cause has to defend
