Alright folks we are aiming at one day not being afraid of an entitled elderly taking out a family or two while out on the roads. Ganbare, kokumin.

Nice to see, but these folks aren't the one's that are the problem. As with most things, the majority of people are responsible, it's the one's that don't think they have any problems that will continue to drive and cause accidents.
Doubtful, there will always be the one's that will ignore it. It's that sense of entitlement that keeps them driving.

No decision to lower the age eligible for licenses will be made anytime soon so we might as well require all cars to have front and back drive recorders.
The footages will be useful for insurance claims and learning more about accidents across the demographics of age.

That's great to see. Now, if we could get these younger ratbags and the hopeless Sunday drivers to do the same, the roads would be a lot safer.

Now tell us all about those crazy kids that think they are the worlds greatest race car drivers and at war with other drivers, zigging in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed causing accidents and killing innocent people.

Elderly people of good conscience are returning them, and (semi-)automatic cars are just coming around the corner...
Selfishness at any age will always cause problems, and aggro, and carelessness, and misjudgement.

@ray. You mean taxi drivers?

No idea what the minus points above were for. Spelling? Anonymous people, please give your reasons!
My wife is talking about surrendering hers. I think she can go a bit longer as she generally errs on the side of caution, but she will only reluctantly drive at night. Actually she never liked night driving. If ever I feel she is becoming dangerous I will tell her, and I hope I will be ready when that day comes for me.
Anyway, even as we all grow older, every poster here will inevitably have to face reaching 70, and then 75, and beyond. The years pass faster as you age. I believe technology may be stepping in at the right moment to help sort out the cognitive problems of elderly drivers. Even though I hate the idea of self-driving cars, I can see how they will help certain segments of the population. In fact, the time may come when certain younger and older drivers or those with long records of accidents may only be allowed to drive certain categories of assisted-driving cars.
