China playing childish games again

I wonder why the headline wasn't "Three Chinese naval vessels which did not enter Japan's territorial waters nor take action to pose any threat to MSDF ships or planes spotted in waters near Japan"

11 ( +20 / -9 )

in view of the emphasis on "large" destroyer, I guess size does matter...

3 ( +10 / -7 )

since destroyers are, in essence, 'minders' for other types of ship, I presume that those minded are of more significance? wonder what the other two mentioned here were about....

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

The three vessels sailed through the Strait of Tsushima and entered the Sea of Japan.

Check that location on a map.

The article could just as easily stated, close to Korea or close to China and eventually close to Russia.

China playing childish games again

They are not childish, they are deadly serious games.

If one of these ships enters Japans EEZ, Japan has every right, along with QUAD forces, to sink them immediately. Just try it, Commies, just try it.

Lol.

It's unlikely that communists will try such a thing. That's not what communism is about.

As for the Beijing regime, they are just doing what all superstates do. Not that I approve of such provocative action.

Decades of tight fiscal policy and misplaced belief in balanced budget have rendered Japan lagging far behind China in defense capabilities. The ruling LDP politicians should realize that “If you want peace, prepare for war.”

3 ( +13 / -10 )

Physically no threat was made, psychologically though the message was clear.

Classic CCP response to someone saying something they don’t like.

15 ( +17 / -2 )

China is just pretending to be a "tough-guy". That "bullying" only works on other 3-World countries in the region. It just a publicity stunt for the people's support at home.

China does not want any "smoke" from Japan, US, or any of its allies.

This morning, we welcome some of our younger readers.

Today, our lesson will concern why blowing things up is not

A) a good idea

B) preferable to diplomacy and dialogue

C) the best move if one wants to safeguard millions of lives in the region

So much for the "deterrence" Japan just recently talked about.

The town criers.

China playing childish games again.

I disagree. This is just like US/UK Freedom of Navigation runs.

As long as they don't come closer than 12nm to Japanese land without Japan's approval and don't fish in the Japanese EEZ, they are perfectly within their rights.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Battle Stations!!!

They have the right to sail in international waters.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

YuriOtani is correct, China has every right to be in international waters. If they enter Japanese waters, not recognizing Japan's claim on the disputed islands (which Japan won't take to the ICJ!) then Japan has a serious dilemma; they can apparently now fire on such vessels, but doing so would be a full-on act of war in China's eyes, and they would take over the islands permanently, establishing a foothold within what Japan considers its borders. And Japan would be helpless.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

The three vessels did not enter Japan's territorial waters nor take action to pose any threat to MSDF ships or planes, it added.

So what's the problem, and why is it even news. In fact, is it even any of Japan's business.

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

Sailing in international waters is fine, its what ships do, US ships, Japanese ships and in this case Chinese ships. Now if the Chinese military vessels were in Tokyo bay it would be different.

Non story, just more of the same old anti China propaganda we are being fed on a daily basis.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

China copying the US with it's own "freedom of navigation" patrol. No point in making anything of this as the US and others do it in the South China sea and the Taiwan straight. Just a few ships out for a cruise in International waters. Nothing to see here.

14 ( +16 / -2 )

Since when number or size matters ? What invasion ?

Only if ships got in Japanese national water that there should be a media concern.

All ships have right to sail in international waters.

Also, with satellites, no need to send ships. Even Google can follow them at every meter I am sure without any ship.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

The ships sailed between Tsushima and Korea, which is really the main international passage into the Sea of Japan and Vladivostok. No idea what the Chinese intentions are - if any. But it's pretty clear the media has been told to play it up and stoke the flames against China among ordinary Japanese.

Some people obviously can not read.

Three Chinese naval vessels including a large guided-missile destroyer have been spotted in the Strait of Tsushima, north of Japan's Kyushu main island.

In case you missed it. @Mickelicious.

North of Kyushu Island close to where the CFAS Sasebo is and readying for deployment or some ships in deployment and out and about. Parts unknown.

Left MCAS iwakuni the CAG and where F-35's are kept.

Right is CFAS Sasebo. So what you have is three Chinese vessels 259 KM with in reaching CFAS Sasebo.

And 379 KM from reaching MCAS Iwakuni. With its armaments from current last known position.

34.918314, 129.639642 at said position right off the coast of Busan.

The primary armament on these class off Chinese ships are missiles carried in 112 universal vertical launch cells (VLS) And 64 cells forward and 48 cells aft. The same VLS model is used on the Type 052D destroyer which is believed to be an implementation of the GJB 5860-2006. The longest variant, with 9-metre cells, is likely used. The Type 055 is expected to carry HHQ-9 surface-to-air missiles, YJ-18 anti-ship cruise missiles, CJ-10 land-attack cruise missiles, and missile-launched anti-submarine torpedoes upon entering service. Potentially, the larger cells may also carry anti-ship ballistic missiles.

Ask any XO of any American or US ship stationed in Japan and they will tell you straight formattable battle class destroyers and no push overs for AGEIS destroyers. I would feel much better knowing the USS Port Royal or the USS Princeton was around.

No this is a major provocation on the sovereignty of Japan and should be treated as such.

Its is something to worry about and I expect the Japanese government are preparing a strong protest of words.

Yes, I have nice curtains as well. I nice blue shade from Nitori.

Semper Fi.

China needs to show it's people that it can react, I certainly hope this is what it is, WE DO NOT need another disaster from China.

Are you sure? I thought it was 34.918314, 129. 7 39642.

That doesn’t play a role so much, as both positions are nearer to Tsushima than Busan. It’s just another clear provocation even if not intruding but ‘only’ irritating up to the maximum possible point. How would anybody of you react, if a team of thieves patrols before your entrance door or before your window of the living room, not intruding and stealing, but just waiting for your reaction or an error you could make, for example not closing the bedroom windows? lol

In case you missed it. @Mickelicious.

Oh I saw it OK.

The bigger picture is two sets of children brainwashed to worship flags. Salute the flag, die for the flag, and your loved ones get the ultimate patriotic souvenir of the flag off your coffin. Hurrah, what an honour!

The whole thing offers exceptional shareholder value for the military-industrial complex. While you're seeing bogeymen from behind your Nitori curtains (nice colour, by the way), assorted spooks and all their buddies are busy in their gated communities concocting new threats to pay for their trophy homes and private schools.

Oh, and kindly keep your gang slogans to yourself. Thank you.

Exactly. Doesn't matter if it is off the coast of Korea, China, Japan, US, Chile, UK, Spain, Turkey, India, South Africa, Russia ... 12nm is 12nm. International waters.

Now, if they are in the EEZ for any country besides their own, then they can't dig or fish - not even 1 hook out the back of the ship.

The same applies to the Japanese fishing fleet spread around the world. Stay outside EEZs to fish.
